All the excitement over Burrow, which I totally get, highlights THE issue of LSU football. The lack of QB development. We have signed many 4 star prospects that were offered by top schools. However, out of all those prospects, not one panned out. It seems the only way for us to get a serviceable QB is to get one first coached somewhere else.

Moreso it reveals the fallacy of the star rating system. Many 3 star guys have gone on to stardom and even the NFL.

Star system has been shown to be pretty reliable. There are always exceptions but the percentage is much higher for 5* to be drafted than 4* etc

I started a thread about this the other day that got whacked for some reason.

The last recruiting class that had a QB come out of high school to LSU and be anything other than barely serviceable was 2003 with Jamarcus and Flynn

15 years since weve recruited and developed a quality QB.

It’s really amazing.

but that is also a factor of 5 star more likely to play a big name school than a 4 or a 3 .. much more exposure and hype.

But wasn’t the general consensus on here that Brennan was supposed to be an elite prospect and should have played immediately? How do these other programs get guys like Jameis Winston, Johnny Manziel, Tim Tebow, etc...

These guys make immediate impacts and aren’t projects like the guys LSU seem to go after.

It's no secret that LSU is way behind the times when it comes to qb production. A program of LSUs caliber should not be struggling for this many years at qb.

Too early to say the youngsters haven't planned out.

The question is how did they get to be 4-stars. Was it because of athleticism? Was their growth stunted by the system they signed up for? We could say 4-star QBs and below are a mixed bag. It's the 5-star QBs that are most ready as these recruiting sites like to say.

The QBs you see having success at the early stages already have most of the fundamentals down from high school and are generally familiar with the system they are playing in. They are exceptionally good at reading basic coverages; they exhibit a strong foundation in their mechanics; and they are college ready physically.

Brennan seems to be the guy they want and has most of these attributes except he is not yet physically ready. Narcisse is physically ready but only played two full seasons of high school football. He's willing to stand in the pocket and make the throws, but doesn't take care of the ball well enough, yet. And McMillan truly has developed in this system over the last 4 years to "his ceiling", but if you can get more than what he provides at this point you have to go for it.

Jamal Adams was on WFAN radio here in New York the other day and Bart Scott asked him; how come you guys never won any championships with all that talent at LSU? Jamal without skipping a beat said “we never had a quarterback”. It’s been beyond ridiculous regardless of who is running the program that we cannot recruit and develop a solid QB.

I don’t think the issue is lack of development as much as it is that we haven’t signed that many highly recruited QBs. We whiffed on the ones that we have signed. That position has been mismanaged for years now.

LSU QB development has been soft for many years. What is crazy is all the great QBs out of Louisiana that did not play at LSU. There are to many to list so I understand about the excitement about Burrows hope O can get him cheers Mike.
