also, if you're screaming at the top of your lungs the whole game you won't hear any of the profanity.

This is the correct answer.

Why don't we just all wear head phones during the game, right?

Let's not address the issue, lets jut put our heads in the sand and just let people be abusive

I think this may be one of those instances where an older person is looking back with nostalgia and "revising" the way things used to be.

TS twenty years ago was a pretty vulgar and vile place. I always remember seeing fights and people getting hauled out by police back then. You hardly ever see that anymore - although I did see a Ole Miss fan get tossed this weekend.

Agreed - I was just pointing out that the language in TS was pretty salty back in the day.

i heard a woman bitching about this sitting in my section yesterday and gave it some thought last night. Honestly, if you want a family friendly environment then what are you doing bringing your kids to an LSU game in the first place? Dont you see the nearly 90k+ adults roaming campus with drinks in hand?? Do you really expect them to be nice and well behaved in the stadium? Im not saying one side is right or wrong, but lets face reality here. Maybe years ago there was a silent rule about not cursing in front of women and children but that has gone by the wayside in today's society for the most part. Regardless of your feelings on the topic, Tiger Stadium 2010 is not for the faint of heart....if you dont like it, spend your money elsewhere or stay home on the couch.

It creates a great parenting opportunity for parents who aren't lazy and aren't in the practice of sheltering their children.

No, its not church, but it is suppose to be a fan friendly, family atmosphere. Not a drunken free for all.

Obviously someone elses obsession with being offended must make others change their habits. Also, we are expected to act in a certain manner as to not ruin their children.

I'm not trying to defend vulgarity, but anyone who thinks a college or pro football game is supposed to be a "friendly, family atmosphere" isn't living in reality.

Why does everything need to be geared toward a family? I dont have kids, nor want them, nor if I did, would I take them to a football game until they were like 15... it's not geared towards families and I dont mind that...

This is a total straw man argument. I didn't say I was saintly, without fault or looking down on anyone that's your assumption and a pretty poor one considering (thank the Lord)....that we have never met. I believe that in a public setting (Tiger Stadium in particular) with women and children around, people should display some sensitivity and discretion and refrain from using certain language

Wow! Please stop assuming that all women need protection from vulgar language. Maybe your wife’s frailty requires your protection, but I sure do not.

Now on to my own generalization. I have sat in several different sections of Tiger Stadium in the last few years. In most of them, I have never heard cursing. In some, I heard it all the time, and in others, I only heard it after a bad play or call. You can apply that statement to every sports venue in the world.

There's a faction that has been taught (or have convinced themselves) that being stinking drunk and cussing like a drill sergeant is an LSU tradition that goes back to Doc Fenton's day.

Cursing is not just an LSU tradition, you'll see that at most Big Time college football programs in the South, probably anywhere else too.

I don't drink, (Strictly for the weak willed) but DO use a little well chosen profanity when I see something down on the field that warrants its use...........

Great, more delightful lessons from the fricking baby boomer generation. This may not apply to those on this board, but your generation was the one that acted like complete fools and then grew up to stop your kids from making the same choices. Then you bring God into it.

ETA: when I sit in the upper decks, I don't swear at all. Just stop telling others what to do.

1. I sit in the greek section, get wasted, and do curse every once in a while.
2. I don't tell other adults how to behave unless they are harming someone.
3. God doesn't give a frick about the English language.
4. I don't have kids and don't want them. The way I see it, your kids infringe on my experience, not the other way around. I have no desire for TS to be a "family friendly atmosphere." I want other teams to show up and be terrified to play here.
