Once me again you young people have no concept of what you are talking about so let me try to set you straight. I will do my best to use words with only one syllable so you'll be sure to understand this response.

I went to my first L.S.U. football game in 1957 and have been going ever since. I don't leave until the gun sounds and now stay in Tiger Stadium long enough to see the football team exercise it's newest tradition of singing the alma mater. I love Tiger football and 3 and 1/2 hour on 7 Saturdays isn't enough for me. I am a member of the Tiger Athletic Foundation and support the program with my attendance and my dollars.

According to some of the posters on this thread, there should basically be no rules of public decency or respect for others in the public sphere. Everyone should just do whatever they want whenever they want.

Said posters are complete morons.

I'm no baby boomer. I remember being at a college game a few years ago when a guy parachuted in during the pregame. A gust of wind caught him when he was even with the top of the goal posts and he went horizontal and crashed to the ground. Later found out he shattered his femur when his leg stuck into the ground. The whole crowd went quiet out of respect. Then, some idiot college student (I was in college at the time, too), yells out into the complete silence for the guy who might be dead and wasn't moving:

"GET HIM OFF THE FIELD!!!"

Was that okay? He wanted to start the game and wanted the crippled parachutist out of the way.

Fortunately, the crowd had the good sense to boo the heckler. Idiot.

You can't just do whatever you want and not have it affect others. There is a common sense of decency that we all adhere to. That is what should be practiced in public places.

How about this? If you want to curse constantly, why don't you stay home and do it where others can't hear you? See, that argument goes both ways.

Cursing in the student section is expected. In other parts of the stadium, not so much. Now, everybody's gonna let out a "damn" or a "shite" every once in awhile, but to consistently drop F-bombs all game long is just classless. There's no excuse for that other than being an immature a-hole. There's a time and a place for that, and it's not in a crowd of people where women and children are present.

These compete with the posters who are burdened with selective memories and emotions brought on by nostalgia. Tiger Stadium simply isn't that much different that it was twenty years ago. If anything, it seems more civil now.

Sure, college kids are idiots. But do you think college just became idiots? There are probably hundreds of examples of college kids being morons since Tiger Stadium was constructed.

No, but using one example in attempt to support an accusation of a generational change is foolish.

I agree, but there are going to be outliers and, at least in my section, most of these outliers are older men, not college kids.

I don't say anything during games, much less curse. But again, it's how you choose to approach it. I have two or three guys that sit in my section that are borderline retarded. When I start bringing my kids to games, I use them as a teaching tool:

"Son, don't be that guy."

I was at a Chicago Bulls game last week. There were signs and even an announcement prior to the game that profanities could get you ejected. I even saw security warn some drunk behind me. They obviously enforce it because people didn't curse nearly as much as an LSU game. I also went to the U of M v. Wisconsin game. I did not hear one F-bomb. There is simply no excuse for this stuff at LSU games. It can be heard on national TV and it is embarassing. If the NBA can control this stuff so can LSU. I don't want my kids to have to listen to this garbage.

Women and children shouldn't be allowed anyway. The only thing they add is annoyingness

I agree. No one is talking about jumping all over someone if they curse here and there. It is the F-bomb laden tirades that go on and on in front of everybody that are ridiculous. I've got young kids. They've heard bad language before. We teach them about it. But, when someone is just going on a tirade, that is where there is a problem. That's the kind of stuff that shouldn't happen and if people here can't see that, I wonder how they plan to function in society? Get mad in the grocery store because their is a price check on your can of tuna and drop F-bombs all over the place? Sadly, some people do that.

I don't think its a generational thing. Anyone making that argument is bound to lose. I went to games in Tiger Stadium in the late 80's and early 90's when I was a kid and it was bad then. My point applies to all generations, not just college kids.

I cursed like crazy when I was in college. I did it so much it just became my vocabulary and it slipped out constantly. I then realized that I wanted a job one day and I needed to join the real world and I probably needed to learn how to speak without throwing the F-word into every other sentence. I made a good choice.

But, you're right. This has nothing to do with generations. Guys in their 30's and older are just as bad.

LSU fans think that the drinking and cursing make Tiger Stadium a hostile environment for opposing teams. In reality, it just makes the crowd tired and angry. It doesn't go on like this everywhere, despite what some here want to have us believe. People should get out of Louisiana once in a while and experience something different just to compare it.

Maybe its my age (51) but I really don't want to sit near some drunk, obnoxious, foul-mouthed, jackass for 3 1/2 hrs.

Imagine the dad that takes his kid to their first ever game at Tiger Stadium and has this thrill ruined by some loser that cobbled together enough money for a ticket and a bottle of Ancient Age.

My advise to anyone at TS: if someone videotaped you during the game and sent it to your mother, would she be proud or embarrassed.

Well, that's been my point all along. Some people want to act like this is a new thing. It isn't. I distinctly remember being in TS in the 1980s and it being much worse.

I think most people go through this.

Exactly, That's why I laugh when someone gets on here and posts about the civility of Tiger Stadium in the old days. Selective memory.

not to be a total cynic...but although I haven't attended a game since 2000, I have to agree with your comments in general terms.

it's probably not the norm in most situations but seems to follow the trend of the 'dumbing down' of America and lack of morals and respect in society as a whole. not to mention the display of classlessness. is that even a word?

just my 2 dollars (pennies are worthless)

I was at the UNC game in Atlanta and at the Vandy game the next week. Both times, Tiger fans in front of me gave the one finger salute when UNC and Vandy came on the field. I was sitting beside Spencer Ware's parents in Atlanta. Needless to say, I was a little embarassed by our fans actions. No one is more die hard than me, but some Tigers need a little class.

I 'm curious......how do you know that I acted like a fool when I was your age and how do you know how I interacted with my kids?

I put a qualifier in the post that said it didn't apply to everyone on this board. I know you're old, but you must have seen it.

This is truly priceless as you take offense at being told what to do as you tell others what to do. You are an idiot.

Ok, point taken. I won't tell you to mind your own damn business if you don't tell me to watch my language. Deal? Didn't think so.

And you are the final arbiter of what "harming" means........... This will allow me to sleep better tonight!

If you're realllly "harmed" over words then you have problems.

Are you really so presumptuous that you honestly think you know anything about God.......and are you really so arrogant that you think anyone on this board would take seriously the idea that you have any concept of what God cares about. I bet you don't have any idea of the name of the first chapter of the Bible.

No, I don't claim to know anything a supreme, omnipotent, and omniscient being thinks about... but I bet you do.... Oh, and it's Genesis since I've read the entire Bible.

Buddy, this only proves that there is a God. Fortunately for the rest of the world we won't have to worry about the kind of fools you might bring into the world!!!!!!!!

Ok. I never claimed I would be a fit parent.

No. But I also specifically mentioned that I do not curse anywhere but the student/greek section and even then, only it sparingly.

I'm glad we had this talk Mr. Wilson, have a great day.

THIS.

I encourage profanity in the student section as much as possible. I am a student.

I abhor profanity outside of the student section. When I sit in good seats with parents or friends I'm respectful to the elderly who don't want to hear it and the children whose parents won't appreciate my colorful language.

Ever heard of the 1st amendment?

Freedom of speech doesn't give you the right to use profanity in a place like Tiger Stadium. Ever heard that the student tickets are a privilege, not a right? LSU Admin, if they wanted to play hardball, could move the student section up to the upper deck (That way no one could hear the profanity) or they could take any action they see fit to make the vulgarity stop, i.e. not opening up the student gates on gameday. They can do what ever they want.

Ever read the back of the LSU tickets which states that they can be revoked? I'll bet if you were screaming "Suck that Tiger Dick, bitch" in the section where your tickets are located, that if enough people complained about you screaming profanities, that you would be uninvited as a season ticket holder. The same could be done with the student section. It's a privilege to go to the games at a discounted price, not a right, and LSU can (and hopefully will) do whatever it takes to make it stop without having to ban another song that the band plays.

I hope so too. It sucks not being able to play Neck anymore. The band hates it just as much as everyone else, and if the students had a little more maturity, it would be back.
