Pretty uninspiring hire but I guess we’re stuck with him…

Not great, not terrible…
Bio from an earlier thread:
Jay Johnson, Arizona
06-13: San Diego (Asst)
14-15: Nevada (HC)
16-Present: Arizona (HC)
While Jay was the assistant at San Diego, they won 3 WCC titles and made the NCAA tournament four different times. At Nevada, he won them their first ever Mountain West title and had them ranked in the Top 25 in 2015 after going 41-14, the second best record in school history. When he got to Arizona, he got them to Omaha and lost Coastal Carolina in the Championship. In his six years at Arizona, he got them to Omaha twice.
Jay Johnson's Head Coaching Record
Nevada
2014: 31-27, 15-15 (4th in MWC)
2015: 41-15, 22-7 (1st in MWC)
Arizona
2016: 49-24, 16-14 (3rd in Pac-12, CWS Runner-Up)
2017: 38-21, 16-14 (4th in Pac-12, NCAA Regional)
2018: 34-22, 14-16 (6th in Pac-12)
2019: 32-24, 15-14 (6th in Pac-12)
2020: 10-5, 0-0 (COVID Canceled)
2021: 45-18, 21-9 (1st in Pac-12, CWS Appearance)

“Arizona had 737 hits this year with a team BA of .325…that’s 81 more hits than the next closest team”
I’m inspired.....

The conference record should have set off alarm bells for Woody.

Thank God we have you as our resident expert to break down the quality of the hire for us.

hey look on the bright side, if he doesn't work out, Cannizaro will be ready to leave his Rehab at Nicholls and come on up.

I like their hitting approach and obviously getting to Omaha multiple times at Arizona. The obvious thing that sticks out that is a little concerning would be the conference record.

What happened in 2018-2019?
That looks concerning. His first recruiting classes should have been peaking

I hope Johnson is bringing his hitting coach

Well don't renew you suite to Alex Box. I am sure someone else will pick up the space.

He’s going to have all the talent at his disposal. I’m giving him a chance. In!

Dude, you way over thinking this. It could have been injuries or any number of unexpected things that can screw up a season. And we all know how crazy CBB recruiting is. He could have recruited the top 10 kids in the country and 9 of them sign a pro contract at the last minute.
We gonna be fine, just fine.

The retards that keep running with this are being fairly disingenuous. One of the seasons was canceled. He really made it to Omaha twice in FIVE seasons.

Holy hell OP. You have a pretty high bar for the baseball coach.
Im surprised that the hiring of Will Wade or Coach O didnt send you right off the cliff.
