On the first 3 SEC weekends:
- I thought those first 3 weekends we faced some elite teams in State, Tenn, and Vandy. All top 5 teams. That's where we want to be. We just ran up against 3 buzz saws
- Those teams were so much more ready than we were with our young team.
- We played them tough. We had 5 losses by 1 or 2 runs. Everybody is down us but our kids weren't down on themselves. I told them if we fight like crazy and keep believing in ourselves, good things would happen.
On Kentucky:
- We came out smoking. Both teams' offensive approach were the same because both starters were the same type of guy: lots of Ks and few walks.
- The first 7 batters of the game swung at the first pitch. The critics will say you should be more aggressive and they'll also say you should take more pitches. It worked for us but not for Kentucky.
- We got a 9-1 lead but Kentucky scares me. They got a good offensive team. About 10 years ago we had a 9-1 lead on Kentucky vs Taylor Rogers. We ended up blowing the lead in the bottom of the 8th. I had the fresh in my mind so I brought in Fontenot in the 8th. I felt confident in the bottom of the 9th after getting 6 more runs.
- We had kind of the same game on Saturday but Labas tired a little in the 7th. Next thing you know we got a 7-5 game so I brought in Fontenot again. He courageously got us out of a jam in the 8th. We tacked on one in the 9th and we rolled the dice with Edwards in the 9th.
- I thought Blake Money did well but he left some changeups up. The wind was blowing out 20 mph so any mistakes and you'll pay for it. We fought back 5-3 then we just kind of unravelled in the bottom of the 8th. The score was not indicative of how well our team fought.
- We made a big turn in a positive way and we have to maintain it this weekend.
On Jordan Thompson:
- As a coach you have to believe in them and stick with him through the growing pains. I just thought he has something special.
- Reminds me of KRob. Same body, same confidence, same erraticness as a freshman. KRob would break your heart with that scatter arm. You thought once he curtailed it all something was going to be really good about him. Jordan has gotten more of an opportunity as a freshman so he's come along much quicker. We had Bregs when KRob was a freshmen.
On others:
- Beloso did some good things this weekend. Travinski did good things. Got Gio back in the lineup.
- Instead of having a 4 man lineup, you got 8 guys. So if one guy doesn't come through another guy can. Good teams have balance. When multiple guys don't come through people start to doubt that you have it.
On USCe:
- They don't have the well-known names but they have really good arms. Tonight's guy has 60+ Ks. They have a lefty that throws 97. They got a slew of these hard throwers. I don't know how they're getting to school. It's baffling to me how schools are getting these guys.
- We sign a kid and my best friend who works for the Yankees scouted him the other day and he said he doesn't know how we will get him to school. I can see why you signed him. In the last year he's made such a big jump. It's depressing when I hear those things. He's going to get 2 or 3 million. But these other schools get these kids and they get half a dozen of them. It's a challenge for our kids to go against these arms.
- They have the HR bats. Their field is a HR hitters haven. They don't steal. They K a lot. They hit a lot of HRs. It's more like MLB now. It's that style. They swing for the fences. They don't try to manufacture runs. They just try to K a lot. It's hit or miss. They got no hit by Vandy then beat Vandy the next day.

Sweet mother of god. I’ll give it to Paul, he has literally thought of every single possible excuse.

I frankly have no interest in what he has to say anymore.it’s nothing more than a pile of crap coming out of his mouth nowadays.

Come on, bruh

Vandy is nearly as young as we are. They have 5-6 Freshman/sophomores starting with an older pitching staff.

So I started Bianco at shortstop for a few games

Nice summary
Sounds like a much better interview than last week. There are a few things that I would rather him not say, but overall I think it's a lot better than the last few times we've heard him speak. Hopefully we see the same team that we saw on Friday and Saturday last week and they can focus on that while flushing Sunday.

No “we”
That loss is 100% on coaching decisions

He's probably talking about Ben Kudrna.
But in reality, this is a bullshite excuse. South Carolina has a ton of velo because that's what they targeted in recruiting jucos in the last couple years.

Like I said, he’s thought of every possible excuse and stuffed it in this interview. It’s pathetic. When you always come up with a reason outside of your control for not being successful, it affects future success. And you know damn well that mentality is filtering down to young impressionable kids.

Not completely and it is still a terrible excuse to use because other teams have overcome it but that doesn’t take away from the fact Covid has led to the team’s inexperience not necessarily youth. Doughty, Dugas, Milazzo, Travinski, Arnold, Cranford, and Gio would all have a year of a lot of SEC at bats if not for it.
Again not saying it should be used as an excuse for the teams struggles but it’s also not 100 percent CPM’s fault.

Every other team had to deal with this too. We should have more players like Dugas, Gio and Beloso instead of having to depend on so many players in the group that you mentioned.

Lesticles Mainieri at his "best." Enjoy the ride with the captain of the Titanic!! Surprised the Paw ballers haven't been slurping all this bull crap up.

It's something to acknowledge as a hurdle. But it doesn't excuse anything away.
ETA: It's actually the opposite. If everyone has the same bar to clear and we aren't clearing it, that's a problem.

Another Project short and to the point statement. This one is almost sig worthy. Very well said.

It’s a reason not an excuse. You should be able to overcome it. My whole point was that it wasn’t 100 percent CPM’s fault for it being a reason but I know if you aren’t all in on “Marinara is the worst coach in the history of baseball” you are considered an apologist. I will bear that cross if you need me too.
