The team, overall, will be sick next year...especially if a few guys stay another year. As I've said before, I hate to sound like a Next Year U poster but this baseball team is built for next year and the year after. Again, how high the ceiling is depends on the guys that stay/leave...and on the recruits that come to school instead of taking the draft money.

Why are we losing Watson? And wouldn't Duplantis fall under the OP's hope of some guys returning?

I wish Dup would come back, but it does sound like he will go if drafted.

We will always be losing players. LSU should be very good next season.

I agree Hess should come back, but many have been saying he will leave. I would love to have him as the closer again. That was quite a treat.

Because Watson will be drafted in the first 5 rounds and is a draft eligible sophomore.

Oh yeah I know Watson is gone.

I just hope Dup can be convinced to stay, but it is not likely.

Please don't get me started. I'm in a great mood. IF Hess comes back, he will be a starter. If Hess is a closer then that means we have a got super lucky on recruits not signing MLB contracts and they are throwing like a Florida type starting rotation.

I don’t see him drafted in the first five rounds. He’s been atrocious on the base path this season and hasn’t performed as a top five round pick at the plate. He definitely has the intangibles, but I feel as if he’s slipped a good bit this season.

He needs to come back and win a title next season.

My hopes for next season are going to be high.

Out of Hess, Watson, Duplantis, if one of them come back I'll be thrilled. If two of the three come back I'll be expecting a run in Omaha minimum. If all three come back, then I'll probably be like the rantards melting like a bitch every time LSU trails in a game.

Watson was projected to go high in the draft preseason and I haven't seen anything from this year that would change that route in regards to his potential.

Was rated the #1 pro prospect in his wood bat league this past summer and...

Advocate article

Three LSU players — including a pair of draft-eligible sophomores — landed on Baseball America's list of the top 100 college baseball draft prospects. Outfielder Zach Watson (No. 23) and right-hander Zack Hess (No. 44) are only sophomores, but both are eligible to be selected in the 2018 draft. Junior outfielder Antoine Duplantis (No. 72) rounded out LSU's representation on the list.

He's #62 on this list that includes all prospects. High school and college.

Hopefully they teach him base running and not hacking away at the first pitch he sees.

And Lange and Poche are coming back!

Jk it's 2018, not 2016 ya dang dummys!

On a serious note, Pitching will be great next year. I just hope we can contain Duplantis and Watson. Although I'm not sold that we can keep the latter.

Nothing wrong with a sports forum wanting to discuss next year's class. I know our own fans think that OUR OWN fans do that a lot, which we do on this board, but I personally get joy out of talking about what's coming back even if we are midseason.

IF Hess comes back, he will be a starter...

This is reality. Hess is being looked at as a back of the rotation starter by scouts. They look at arm talent and stamina. He has been able to keep his velocity up deep into games with movement. His problem has been placement and command. Those things can be developed, Velocity and stamina not so much.
