Pitching proposals moving forward

Move Herring to Sunday starter. Give Guidry action out of the bullpen. Let Little start off pitching with clean innings/middle relief. Move Hurd to midweek starter until he can find it again.

It beats the present plan.

re: Pitching proposals moving forward
Use Herring if you need to to secure the win on game 1 or 2. Same with Shores and Edwards. Leave game 3 as TBD and if one of them isn't needed in the first 2 then he starts game 3. Otherwise start Little in game 3 and see how he does. We need to get him or Hurd going at some point for this team to make a deep run. And we cant use Little out of the pen with a lead right now. Guidry and Collins were both encouraging today. If they keep it up and become dependable bullpen guys then you can make either Edwards, Herring, or Shores the permanent game 3 starter later on. Maybe Hurd will be better in relief too

One of the Freshman needs an opportunity to start on Sunday

I do think moving Hurd to the midweek role is probably the best choice if hes being moved out of Sunday. I would like to see either Little or Herring get the first crack at the Sunday starter spot. But I trust whatever plan Jay comes up with.

I don’t know. The coaches are working with Hurd, and they probably have an idea of whether he is close or not. If he’s close, keep him on Sunday. Getting Hurd to regain his control is key to this season. He could be a dominant starter.

re: Pitching proposals moving forward
I personally would go with Little right now. He seems to be better as a starter and I’m not sure I want to disrupt what Edwards, Herring, and Shores are doing right now.

But they need Hurd in the rotation to meet their ceiling.

Does he look close to you. I can see he is no where close with the mental game or his command. Move the guy to midweek starter to gain command and confidence against non SEC hitters. If he improves move him to bullpen for a couple of SEC games. If he can do that he can go back to Sunday starter if no one has stepped up and taken hold of the job. Until then TBD Sunday.

If he’s close, let him start midweek games until he’s ready. We can’t afford to keep losing SEC games because a guy is working through issues. I agree with you that he can be a dominant starter, but right now he’s just not throwing enough strikes to be trusted on the weekend.

I am not starting either. I’d go Guidry before both of them at this point. Collins or someone else could come in and pitch if you want. I would go with “Johnny WholeStaff”

FWIW - I’ve said from the beginning this season that Shores will be the Sunday starter by the end of this season. I’m sticking with that prediction.

I don't know if throwing Herring into that role so quickly after they just started using him more is the best move right now, but I could see him eventually getting there. I definitely agree that Hurd needs to go to midweek to find it again. The very short leash today is what I expected it would be if he struggled again, and would appear to be a signal that he's out of the weekend rotation until he can hopefully get right.

Why couldn’t we use a pitcher for a few innings first thing then put Cooper in to finish it off. He’s not a starter per se but a god long reliever.

I agree that Hurd should move to
midweek starter.

While I'd like to see Herring start Sundays he may be too valuable securing game one or two. Maybe Little could become the Sunday starter.
