So the pitcher completely misses his target and you blame the coach that called for a pitch 6 inches off the plate....seems reasonable
re: Pitch callingPosted by deaux on 5/4/19 at 8:04 pm to hessmersaint
No it hasn’t

They shouldn’t have called it six inches off the plate in that scenario...it should have been way up in the zone or something offspeed in the dirt. That’s the point!!!
re: Pitch callingPosted by PP7 for heisman on 5/4/19 at 8:10 pm to hessmersaint
We all agree that it should not have been a strike. You just have to understand the situation.
1. An Eric Walker fastball up in the zone will get sent about 450 feet
2. there was runners on 1st and 2nd, a wild pitch there moves them up an additional 90 feet.
3. Eric Walkers best waste pitch is a fastball/changeup about 6 inches off of the plate.
He simply missed his spot. That's all.

A "waste" pitch should almost never be a total waste. That's a great way to run up the pitch count and make for an easier AB. 6 inches off is a long way. Coaches can only do so much, at some point it comes down to players executing
re: Pitch callingPosted by hessmersaint on 5/4/19 at 8:14 pm to PP7 for heisman
There were 2 outs the runners moving up weren’t that big of a deal..and a fastball in the eyes wouldn’t have gone 450 feet. It would have gone straight up if they made contact.
re: Pitch callingPosted by hessmersaint on 5/4/19 at 8:17 pm to FAP SAM
Those pitches I’m talking about aren’t total wastes. You get them to chase a bad ball in that count.
re: Pitch callingPosted by FAP SAM on 5/4/19 at 8:17 pm to hessmersaint
And what if he missed his spot with a fastball up??
re: Pitch callingPosted by hessmersaint on 5/4/19 at 8:20 pm to FAP SAM
It’s hard to miss and gut someone when your trying to throw it almost level with their neck or face.
re: Pitch callingPosted by FAP SAM on 5/4/19 at 8:20 pm to hessmersaint
Walker doesn't really have a pitch that starts in the zone and ends in the dirt. If he puts one in the dirt its a ball the whole way, and you dont get a swing. Regardless if he hit his spot on that pitch its either a K or a weak grounder off the handle. But he didnt hit his spot

Walker can’t throw a low and away breaking ball?
re: Pitch callingPosted by FAP SAM on 5/4/19 at 8:23 pm to hessmersaint
Ok I give up. You're totally right, that's on CPM/Dunn. They have been in baseball their entire lives and don't understand that you shouldn't groove a fastball middle middle on an 0-2 count. Walker gets zero blame and fire everybody
re: Pitch callingPosted by FAP SAM on 5/4/19 at 8:25 pm to hessmersaint
Yea low and out curveball from a right hander works wonders vs a lefty. We should do that more often

re: Pitch callingPosted by hessmersaint on 5/4/19 at 8:26 pm to hessmersaint
I am a big fan of Walker’s pitching. I think he gets the most out of his talent with hitting his spots and changing speeds, but with an 0-2 count and 2 men on base you can’t try and thread the needle and miss over the heart of the plate. With that count the only swing should be at an almost unhittable pitch.
re: Pitch callingPosted by FAP SAM on 5/4/19 at 8:28 pm to hessmersaint
AND IF HE THREW THE BALL WHERE HE WANTED IT IT WOULD'VE BEEN UNHITTABLE. Holy frick I think you're just trolling me now
re: Pitch callingPosted by hessmersaint on 5/4/19 at 8:30 pm to FAP SAM
I wouldn’t have posted it if I hadn’t seen this as a pattern this year with this situation. That’s why I have to assume pitch calling is not up to par.
re: Pitch callingPosted by deaux on 5/4/19 at 8:30 pm to hessmersaint
There isn’t a pattern though. In fact several posters have claimed this year that we try to waste too many pitches when we get ahead in the count.
re: Pitch callingPosted by hessmersaint on 5/4/19 at 8:32 pm to deaux
I’ve watched almost every game and have noticed it. I have never criticized coaching on here before tonight.
re: Pitch callingPosted by WacoTiger on 5/4/19 at 8:41 pm to hessmersaint
You are an idiot and you don't understand that pitchers make mistakes. Those mistakes are not the fault of the pitching coach calling pitches. Clearly, everyone on this board (except you) understands that no way AD calls a fastball down the fat of the plate on an 0-2 count. He may have called a fastball 5 inches off the plate or he may have called a pitch up in the zone, but Walker threw it down the middle and the guy slammed it. It happens sometimes with 21 year old players. Get over it. It was not the pitching coaches fault. You just don't know what you are talking about, which is why everyone is calling you a troll, meaning you are just digging real Tigers. I can't make it any more clear. Hopefully, this will end a very stupid thread now on 2 pages. I'm sorry you don't understand college baseball, even though you have written above that you watch a lot of LSU baseball games.

No need to call me an idiot man....that really hurts. I will concede that it is possible that Walker badly missed his spot. The reason I have doubts is because i have seen this happen numerous times this year in similar situations. I don’t think Alan Dunn is beyond reproach and it’s ok to question things sometimes.
