Given the losses on D, I'd buy 12.

They do play Alabama and Texas A&M both in November but conveniently get a bye week prior to both games.

I sense dickish sarcasm in that statement by Phil Steele. Perhaps he should scope out those eastern powerhouses bama has to match up against.

This is good for LSU...no one expects much after our bowl performance.

Under the radar with teams in front of us that we will get to play.

LSU get the opportunity to play Georgia, AM and Bama and possibly SC in the sec title game.

All we need is a chance!

I think the team will be better than # 12 but i think the ranking after loosing to Clemson and all the players LSU lost is fair. Plenty of good teams on the schedule to shoot up the rankings quickly once the season starts.

Sixth best pre-season ranking in the SEC? Thrilling.

We will finish in top five and have a great chance to win the NC. bank on it. This teams potential is great, we have an OC, better leadership and they will win more games than last years team I am at 11-2, 12-1. All we want to be in within top 15 when season starts.

He always basis his polls on the projected finish based on scheduling.

I haven't even looked, but he probably has Alabama @ #1 because their only true stiff tests this year is vs us and @ A&M.

We get: TCU, A&M, Florida, @Alabama and @Georgia.

We do have all the pieces to the puzzle. I hate to say it, but a lot rides on the back of our new OC...if he's a quick learner, we should be good!

Steele takes into account the SOS, not just how good a team actually is.

People talk smack on Phil Steele, I think he is very good. I hope he's wrong, I put us at 6.

I think we get to play 4 of the teams ranked ahead of us and honestly, I think we will beat all 4 this year.

LSU is sitting at the spot where teams usually make runs at a NC. We will be in the running again this year.

For as much as people like to hold LSU in the teens for losing so many underclassmen to the draft, the only serious missing piece may be Minter. Martin will replace Reid very well, Simon will be replaced, Hill and Blue were the starters last year, our LBs are deep, and the DL is the one place on the team I never worry about because between Brick and Chief, that group will be good to go come game day.

If you look, at the SEC teams ahead of us, aTm lost their clutch WR, their best RB and their pass rusher. UGA lost it's best defensive players. Florida lost most of their best defenders and their only offensive threat from last year. Bama has been dominant these past few years because of it's OL play. When McCarron has 10 seconds to throw, of course he will have good efficiency. The OL will be good for Bama this year, but not close to what it was the past 3 years with Fluker, Jones, and Warmack.

LSU has a really good chance to win the SEC and the NC next year. The SOS will be there, we just need to win.

If you read it you'll discover that he says these are NOT HIS PREDICTIONS, which will come later. This is his prediction of the initial AP Poll trying to use what he thinks their logic will be. And they must be predictable as he gets their poll right in 9/10 spots in recent years.

"Hi, I'm Phil Steele. This book I have compiled is 500 pages. The first 300 are about me telling you all how wonderful I am. The last 200 are awful predictions."
