So I'm having lunch at a restaurant in Baton Rouge today and strike up a conversation with a USL grad. The subject of basketball pops up and he makes the comment that Pete couldn't carry Bo Lamar's socks! I'm like you can't be serious. But he was. Anybody want to weigh in on this ?

Well, sorry to tell you this, he was lying to you. Hope he wasn't that good of a friend. Bo was great, but he was nowhere close to the same zip code as the Pistol.

There was no such thing as behind the back, through the legs before the Pistal. Bo couldn't carry Pete's jock ball handling and play making, but was a good shooter - bought and paid for by Byral (spelling?)

Don't even know who Bo Lamar is. So I will go with the Pistol.

Saw both.
Bo was very good.
Pete was legendary.
Bo didn’t do much in the league and didn’t last long.

I'd take Andrew Toney over Bo Lamar anyway...

I should of added the following: the guy was a total stranger, I saw both play many times and in my book, Pete is still the greatest player of all time.

I believe he was affiliated in some way with a car dealership in Lafayette a while back? Don’t know for sure though.

Well one of them has an arena at a major university named after him and the other doesn’t.

Bo Lamar was very good and was named First team All-America in 1972 and 1973 along with Bill Walton,David Thompson and Ernie DiGregorio. Rather impressive.

But Maravich was Maravich.

Lamar was a fantastic long range shooter - perhaps equal to Maravich. But that was the extent of Lamar’s greatness. Maravich could do so many other things better than Lamar offensively, there really wasn’t much of a comparison overall.

The first offensive play I saw USL run was a double screen for Lamar a few feet beyond the top of the key (yes he sank that jumper). I remember thinking that if he is willing to shoot from 28 feet, you would think he could get that shot without needin a double screen.

By the way, Roy Ebron was also a legitimate PF for those teams.

saw them both play, don't kid yourself Bo was great! had a higher scoring average than C J. Pete was great er and THE great est in college.

Saw Toney too, he was a 2 time all star int the NBA, although they said his jump shot looked like a hood ornament, but he was an exciting player to watch

the guard play that came out of Louisiana colleges from Pete to C J during that time frame was phenomenal and a privilege to watch

Maravich changed the game of basketball...

Bo Lamar was a great player but this is non sense.

That’s almost like saying Reggie Miller was better than Micheal Jordan.

Dwight Bo Lamar and Roy Ebron were a great tandem for USL way back when. Bo Lamar led the nation in scoring with about a 33 or 34 points per game average before the three-point shot was legal, and most of his scores came from behind the three-point line. Roy Ebron was USL's 6'9" center who averaged about 28 to 29 points a game with about 14 rebounds a game. They were defeated in the final 16 of the NCAA tournament their last year if I remember correctly by Lousiville. Subsequent to the NCAA tournament, USL got busted by the NCAA and received a temporary death penalty for a couple years and had to vacate all their victories. The longtime head coach was Beryl Shipley, who resigned and became the head coach of the San Deigo ABA team and drafted Bo Lamar.

In any event, Lamar wasn't in the same league with Pete Maravich. Maravich could do it all, Lamar was primarily a long distance shooter.
