Anyone who can recruit kids to Oxford, Mississippi can't be all bad. I'd have no problems with him as dline coach and recruiting coordinator.

+1

We seem to have a serious void at teh top of the defense though... and I think we need a defensive coordinator with some chops

I'm not sure Chavis as D coordinator and Orgeron as Dline and recruiting coordinator are realistic hopes... but if they were I'd be extremely plussed about LSU landing them

Hate to quote myself but I realized something obvious about what my statement above implied... that Earl Lane would lose his Dline coaching position to Orgeron

That seems unrealistic... from the whispers Lane is a highly trusted member of the present staff...

I'm not sure that Orgeron would jump to LSU without a title of defensive coordinator or DLine and recruiting coordinator though... and I'm not of the mind that he has shown himself necessarily ready to be the defensive coordinator (ironic since he was a head coach in the SEC but it's a concern)

I suppose at tenessee with Kiffin the elder as D coordinator they could offer Orgeron the Dline and recruiting coordinator position happily though

from McKay's blog today:
quote:

As to the future of Mallory, wide receivers coach D.J. McCarthy, defensive line coach Earl Lane and special teams coach Joe Robinson, all of whom have been subject to conjecture of late, we'll see. There have been reports Lane has been working on a job back in Florida at places like Florida International, Central Florida and Florida Atlantic; those stories have percolated for a couple of weeks now
