Gene Chizik was a great assistant coach and went to Iowa State where he went 5-19 in two years as head coach.
Auburn hires him based on their knowledge of his success as an assistant, and he has done more than OK.
Torina was an excellent player at Florida and was successful as a top assistant coach. She has done OK at FIU and now will have her shot as a coach in the SEC.
As others have brought up, Saban and Miles weren't "sexy" picks when they were hired, and they have turned out OK as well.

Couldn't LSU still go after Lawson.
I know that she probably has a buyout, but from what we've heard, she was very excited about coming to LSU.

chiz wouldn't be doing shite if he didn't have the best oc and didnt pay a freak athlete 200k. cam and gus made chiz.

all he did his first year was be average. id rather LSU softball be back in the cws than stay the same at being knocked out in regionals.
she could be a good hire but its still disappointing we went from trying to buy the best to the gamble of a unknown.

This proves my point exactly.
She has done 'OK' at FIU...'OK'...and now she gets one of the top programs in, arguably, the best softball conference in the country.
Like I said, I hope that she becomes the greatest softball coach that ever lived, but right now, that hiring seems a little odd considering who they were initially going after.

And I don't get why some people can't see what most of us are really talking about in this thread.
I don't think anyone is saying that Torino will fail, but most of us are a little curious as to how we wind up with FIU's HC when we had approached the Arizona HC, and then hired the Bama HC.
Do you not see how there could be some confusion there?

Kinda leaves you scratching your head....but I'm hoping she comes highly recommended by people who know softball better than us.
