Safe to say Pelini is here for 3 years unless he gets a D1 head coaching job.

quote:

Pelini's buyout equals out to the total amount of base salary and compensation left in his contract. If he's fired without cause in his first year, LSU would owe him about $6.9 million; if he's fired without cause in his second year, about $4.6 million; and his buyout would be about $2.3 million in his final year. If Pelini leaves LSU for any Division I head coaching position or any coaching position in the NFL, he will not owe any payments to LSU. Pelini will owe LSU 100% of the remaining contract if he leaves for any SEC coaching position other than head coach, and if Pelini leaves for any Division I non-head coaching position, he'll owe LSU $1.15 million.

Good that we will have an incredible coordinator and some stability. He will win 1-2 titles in that 3 years.

Realistically Pelini is getting at least 2 seasons

So call this a 2.3 million dollar buyout.

No way he gets canned this year with four returning starters.

I like Os contract

6 million base with incentives is fair and earned.

70% buyout isn’t bad in today’s market.

Interesting feature is 187,500 personal air travel for O. Wonder if that’s for travel to and from a second house or just for bringing family/friends to road games

Don't have a huge problem except in general, all coaches are overpaid at the base. This is due to the monopoly in the "AGENTS" market.

Would love to see more coaches in the $4MM-$5MM base with higher incentives....if/when they earn it GREAT.

Was Saban worth his money this year ?
How about Jimbo? or Herman?

My point is LET THEM EARN as much as they deserve..but key word EARN.

Above is link to top paid S&C coaches. Moffitt deserves a bump for sure. Iowa S&C ranked 1st at $800K. Moffitt is 7th at $520K.

Unsung member of LSU athletics since he does more than just football is Jack Marucci - he is on the cutting edge of behind the scenes things you don't even realize.

Only one coach can win the NC, only four can reach the playoffs and only one in each conference can win a conference title.

How do you determine who “earns” what?

Should the schools put a big chunk of money in a pot and the champions take it all as s a bonus?

I'm surprised you didn't use the tired arse line that "people weren't beating down his door".

Guess what chief, he was being pursued by other schools over the past three years, but he was happy where he was due to the Nebraska buy out.
He is a damn well respected coach and we paid what we had to.

Let a coach start with $4MM or $5MM
USING RANDOM NUMBERS:
Bowl eligible Bonus $100,000
Conference Championship Game Bonus $ 200,000
Conference Champion Bonus $ 300,000
Final 4 teams PLAYOFF Bonus $ 500,000
Win Semi Final Bonus $ 750,000
Win it all Bonus. $ 1,000,000

You're going with being a cheap arse just because he said it's his dream job? The merits aren't enough for you? He's earned every penny of his contract and then some in my book. The fact that LSU is his dream job is just lagniappe to me.

No, not a cheap arse, just not a dumb arse being manipulated by a monopoly in the agent's market.

What I have proposed is actually higher than what most coaches used to make and even what some make today, except for the markets controlled by Jimmy Sexton and the likes.

In my formula....last year Coach O would have brought in about $8MM, the ones being affected would be those that accomplished nothing...
i.e. the Hermans and Fishers of the world.

You produce you earn big, you do not produce, you have to settle for $4MM-$5MM a year sorry.
