I’m not for it, I get the complaints but once that line is crossed college football is over IMO.

You're not for paying people who produce millions of dollars in revenue?

And why would it be over?

If that’s the only thing that’s changed, true.

If that’s one part of a robust strategy designed to bring college athletics into the 21st century, absolutely not.

I don't see why they can't at least get paid for their image and likeness.

Why would it end college football?

Would it end all the other college sports as well? Because you can't only pay college football players.

And what kind of pay are you talking about? Are we talking the university paying players, or just loosening NCAA rules to more freely allow players to earn money from outside sources?

I wish college football could be what it was during the 2000s forever. Oh well. Thank god for DVR.

No it won’t. Just allow them to make money of their likeness and a lot of this goes away.

If they monitored the transactions and kept everything legal a lot of this crying would go away.

I mean the NFL is being subsidized by college football, how many minor league NFL teams do you see? Not that college power programs aren't making huge revenue off the players. I think they deserve something above the cost of attendance stipends. Then it will be like men's/women's pro soccer with every sport/athlete demanding equal $. It's a slippery subject, but not like there aren't resources as long as the revenue keeps flowing. How many days a year do major college football players truly have off?

They should get paid directly from the university that benefits from their talents. They shouldn't be paid only according to using their name and likeness. Just fricking pay them.

Well that’s just it isn’t it? The media screams injustice pay them. How? If the school pays you better make it a set pay rate for all, or you have a league with no salary cap. I think getting paid for their image should be in fairness allowed to an extent. But who pays the center or the punter?

You let these kids work their own deals on endorsements, autographs, etc., and you solve the problem with the market.

shite programs like ULL suffer for it, but the game does fine and the kids are happy.its all good.

If the university has too yes. If it’s boosters and endorsements, no

Most athletic departments lose money, so this means only a handful of universities will have teams OR you will seethe complete destruction of non revenue sport for men in college.

Then there is this pesky little rule called title IX that has already completely fricked with college athletics that now says you can’t give more benefits to one student athlete than the other

You didn't answer a single one of my questions.

Whoever is willing to pay for the center or punter pays for them. If nobody wants to pay for them, then they don't get paid.

There is a middle ground that can be found. I can't think of it.

But realistically and logistically we cannot pay players fairly. Schools like LSU, Texas, Florida, Alabama, Ohio State, etc your big time blue chips make way more money and revenue than a middle tier school and an extreme amount compared to lower tier. If we have to meet the low hanging fruit as far as numbers go these players are not exactly going to be making a lot of money.

The bottom 80 schools in power 5 cant compete with the top 40 schools as far as paying players/revenue. and top 10 blows the other 30 out of the water even further.

Where will the balance come from? Forcing everyone to pay what the little schools can manage? That opens even more problems.

This is going on now anyway. It's just going on illegally. So, you either keep it illegal and have the big schools paying more than the little schools can, or you open the gates and give everybody the equal opportunity. The small schools still won't be able to complete financially, but it's not different than what is currently going on when you think about it.

It would end in the sense that the haves would just pay out the most. Can u imagine Bama being able pay more players? People act like these kids have it bad they are being used by God! bullshite they have the best of these colleges offer for free.

Maybe their allowance should be more and on a sliding scale from freshmen to seniors, but if athletes get paid, they shouldn't get scholarships. They can pay for their tuition. But they get a free ride for whatever degree they want.

How much do you think Matt Mauck would have had to pay for his schooling today if he didn't have a scholarship? How about the players at Stanford?
