The recruiting was pathetic. Look at our infield, catchers, and weekend starters for the past two seasons. He started a pitcher at third base game 1 and 2 last season because he couldn’t find 3 infielders. We haven’t had a shortstop since Josh Smith in 2019. We haven’t had a catcher since Paperski in 2017. We currently have 1 starting pitcher that can get us into the 6th inning of some games.

That ain’t on Jay Johnson.

We have a catcher now but he’s hurt and can’t hit. I’m the biggest Jay Johnson supporter but he can’t continue to put Thompson out there.

Exactly. Mainieri said as much.

Idk who you replace him with, every other infielder is bad, hurt or left handed

That’s what schools like Southeastern and McNeese do. Find a kid that can do one or the other (offense or defense). LSU should have a guy good enough at both.

And this team is still competitive thanks to outstanding relief pitching and hitting.

Spot on! If so, then I have no answers! I have never ever seen a player completely shite the bed in one game. Forget the other games! He had completely lost it mentally and needs to sit! End of story!!!!!

Morgan, Doughty, Dugas, Jobert, Pearson, Stevenson, Travinski, Beloso...

All Louisiana kids. I give Cain/Mainieri credit for getting Dylan Crews to LSU. But other than that, it’s mostly home grown kids. That’s not busting your butt in recruiting to find the best in the country to mix in with the in state guys.

We have a conundrum. I have to think CPM was a miracle worker to get these inexperienced, ragtag misfits to a super regional last year while simultaneously blaming him for all the mess ups this year.

We are basically 2021 with a year more of experience and we traded Landon and AJ for Berry, Cooper, and Collins. Worth it?

Did CPM come off the sidelines and tackle Coleman?

This team now has one weakness - fielding. If JJ can somehow minimize the damage we can go a long, long way. Talent ain't our problem man.

I mean We were a 3 seed and Crews went apeshit in the regionals.

We were razor thin close to not even making the tournament. We were in extra innings of a loser bracket game while 0-1 in the regional.
We had some players hit exceptionally well they regional, and some of those guys could do it again this year. Mainieri wasn’t a miracle worker, we had some guys play well that weekend.

Yes it is. We don’t have a SS on the team. We should have at least three. Thompson should be that 3rd baseman who could play SS in a pinch. We should have a real SS at the position, and the backup, Cranford currently, should be a guy who sparkles but maybe can’t hit.

Doughty is better at 3B where he can just react and use his athleticism. PM tried to start fricking Helmers at 3B at first and 2B was a revolving door with defensive issues. He also had Milazzo all year. The only true outlier is Thompson who is in his own fricking head and has been since the end of last year. PM wouldn’t have him playing any better. Acting like he did something special with these players is a joke.
