But where’s the creativity to help Finley?

Finley leaves a lot on the table. His options are there he said just not seeing it yet.

Numerous times he should have scrambled for good yardage or found another receiver. Finley is also missing the RB a lot. I assume with experience and improvement, Finley will have more options.

It was a ball control game, I didn't expect creativity with a frosh QB and some of our best defensive players out.

Marshall was getting frustrated, he should have had a big game.

“Finely has no touch”

You’re right about that, did you see the one up the seam to Gilbert? If he puts just moderate touch on it we had a huge play.

Agree, the game plan was obviously conservative. But that was a problem in the 2nd half.

Finley has a strong arm to strike at the intermediate routes. He has no touch for the underneath or deep routes.

I notice that if the play isn’t designed to throw it to the left side he literally never looks at that side of the field. He looks right then rolls right and progressively shrinks the field. I don’t wanna sound like I’m piling on him because I think he’s very talented and he’s just a baby but that’s what I’m seeing. Maybe the OC has to be conscious of that and call more plays left to at least stop the D from cheating to his dominant side.

So predictable now

Funny thing, that’s exactly what my wife says. She also wonders why teams run up the middle since that’s where all the folks are. Last week she asked why don’t they tackle the guys who make long runs. I don’t know how to talk football with people like her...or you.

Yep when his target is stationary he can hit them at most yardages but when they’re on the move and throws have to be leveled he struggles.

He’s a freshman. There’s a limit to what you want to do with him.

I'm most disturbed by the total lack of creativity in the run game. We will never see Emery live up to his capabilities running him in the 1-2 hole. TDP is made for that but even he would benefit from more motion/misdirection.

Hey...I did see Jet-Sweep action once today so that's something...

All of his shortcomings can be fixed, which gives him a huge upside. Things aren't intuitive yet, but only experience fixes that.

Excuses. Teams with less or comparable talent, experience run more creative offenses. Freshmen and RS frosh QB play in these systems.
Could Ensminger run some misdirection, a jet sweep, etc? No. He’s limited.

It’s not like LSU did anything overly creative last year. They never substituted, had 5 pass catching weapons, and the best qb in program history.

Ensminger pisses me off a lot but let’s not make last year into some massive schematic breakthrough.

Soccer fan?

This is American football where veryone understands true frosh are not likely to be able to run a complete offense.

We had 3, probably 4, maybe 5 first round guys at the skill position last year FFS.

We had 5! Chase is top 10 and Marshal is gone before the 25th pick. Plus Damien Lewis should have been a first rounder.

The game plan went exactly as the coach planned it. The TOP proved such. That's not even to mention the wide open missed TD to Gilbert that was overthrown.

What the coaches didn't account for was Stingley, Toles, Hampton and Ricks being unable to play the second half

Ya know your statement doesn’t read like a description of a top 10 football program.

Problem is like you said it takes time and we’re trying to win games so he needs help from the playcalling

Sheet, baw, Ensminger called same running play 3 times in a row!

Twice to the right....then flipped it and ran it to the left!

That’s next level offensive genious

+1. I thought the game plan was EXCEPTIONAL!
Ensminger is doing what he can to not only score points but also help the defense w ball control. Probably the best offensive and defensive game plan this season! Great job by the entire staff. Players are also producing better - that helps!
