Fyi: LINK
quote:

"According to LSU football tradition, the name came from a Civil War regiment known as the Louisiana Tigers, which distinguished itself with its fighting spirit in the battle of the Shenandoah Valley, where it was said they 'fought like tigers,'" wrote Dan Hardesty in his book, "LSU: The Louisiana Tigers."

However, Hardesty notes, the nickname Tigers was commonly used by Louisiana outfits before the Civil War. It made sense for LSU, which began as a military school, to adopt the nickname carried by several of the state's military outfits.

"As far back as 1845, in the Mexican War, four different volunteer units from Louisiana used the nickname," Hardesty wrote. "The Washington Artillery Battalion from New Orleans used that name in the Mexican War and again in the Civil War."

additionally, the Bengal Tiger in Louisiana goes back to 1838...

then to screw with their minds even further, there is a LSU connection to the Flying Tigers...why do you think there's a P-40 in the bookstore and LSU AFROTC uses the Chinese Tiger on their insignia...

so, you have a group identified with the Louisiana Tigers who defended Chinese people from the Japanese...so are the people potentially trying to change the mascot racist by refusing to acknowledge this fact...

I'm an LSU alum and I've loved LSU sports since I was four years old. But I can learn to live without both. I'm not there yet, but I'm a lot closer than I have been.

LSU does NOTHING to commemorate the military unit. The mascot is a tiger. We have a live tiger. We spend tons of money for tiger conservation. It’s about the tiger, nothing else.

I forgot about that, but that has to do with WWII, not the Civil War and slavery.

For the love of God will you rat bastards stop fricking posting this shite!!! You are literally breathing this into existence. A metric frick ton of people read this site and will post the shite on twitter and have it take off like wildfire. If you wanna keep our mascot, kindly shut the frick up and stop starting threads like this. This goes for everyone doing it, not just you. People are stupid and will raise hell over anything right now.
