After a much needed break from the board, post Missouri game, I read a post in a thread that implied that Orgeron hired Pelini at the recommendation of Pete Carroll. Did those words actually come out of Ed's mouth or is that convenient speculation?

Also, who were the finalists for the D coordinator at the time?

O has taken petes advice on countless things, O has Built the program as a replica of Pete’s USC teams.

Tell the truth Monday isn’t an O thing. That is Pete Carrol.

Why O going with Pete’s recommendation is some kinda knock is somehting I don’t really understand tbt.

Ed Orgeron hired Bo Pelini to replace Dave Aranda, who left LSU after four seasons as defensive coordinator for the head coaching job at Baylor, this spring and Pelini left a head coaching job to do just that after five years at Youngstown State. Orgeron and Pelini have ties with Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, who recommended Pelini to Orgeron. The chance to return to Baton Rouge where he won a National Championship already was one of the few opportunities he'd consider, he told 104.5 ESPN Baton Rouge Wednesday morning.

Why Bo Pelini returned to LSU as defensive coordinator

This is what I was looking for, thanks.

My use of "convenient" was a distractor and the downvotes were appropriate. Orgeron certainly should receive the credit for the hires at the end of the day - when they work and when they do not - and we all hope that they do, but that is not reality.

Orgeron needs to think for himself.
I doubt Pete suggested that O hire Bo.
When you make a critical hire. You find out who is interested. You do your homework. O has huge resources to evaluate coordinators. His analysts can breakdown scheme, tendencies etc.
You interview the best candidates just like business. You decide if you like them; if they match your culture; and, most of all, you assess their capabilities.
You don't go on reputation because that's unreliable.

Just bc O mentioned that Pete recommended carroll doesn’t mean he don’t think for himself O gets recommendations all the time, I am sure.

Also, there is ZERO evidence that O didn’t do this.
