Micromanagement as things began to spiral was one of his biggest issues at Ole Miss.

pledged to "get more involved" with the offense (became a micro-managing control freak) and the team fell apart in spectacular fashion.

The fall of Gerry Dinardo is a case study on how megalomania increases relative to success and subsequent failures. I hope we aren't seeing this with Orgeron.

You don't think Saban gets involved with the defense, or Riley with the offense?

The difference is that they were actually successful as coordinators.

I think this is all a little bit of overreacting. He's the head coach, he's obviously a great D line coach, he wants a dominant 4 man front, Louisiana produces them, I really don't think this is that big of an issue, he's probably just talking about working with the D lineman

Vegas will want to revisit the 40 to 1 odds for LSU winning the 2021 Title.

Did Dinardo ever win a national championship?

The difference is DiNardo was actually a top tier offensive coordinator at one point and not just spending his entire career as a position coach.

yeah BUT he ran the I-Bone as an OC, so he wasnt exactly Mr Fun and Gun

This is worse than the DiNardo stuff.

oh it has real potential, no doubt

I knew a couple of guys in the program back then and there was a funny story about the loss at Arky in 98 (41-14) and Dinardo losing his shite and basically challenging everyone in the locker room to a fist fight

Ed Orgeron says he's "going to be more involved with the defense"

He has said publicly a bunch that is why Ole Miss was such a disaster under his watch.

This should terrify everyone.

He is a fricking moron when it comes to actually coordinating.

So much for the “CEO approach” letting his coordinators coach. Might as well keep the Coaching Changes board open.

Orgeron may have signed his own resignation by insisting on the 4-3. He will be more involved? OMG.

Ed should absolutely be involved with the defensive game plan. He gave Bo way too much rope last year and it was a disaster.

This part is fine - he can have that preference. A 4-3 base with multiple looks can be very successful.

This is his downfall. His old bad habits are flaring up. He was hired based on a plan to specifically not do this.

Only way that happens is if the wheels fall off again and we go 6-6 or worse.

We have 20 starters returning, offense should be solid again, and the defense can't possibly be as bad as it was last year.

So I don't see that happening.

So now we want the type of HC everyone used to bitch about Orgeron being - not involved?

I suspect Coach O knows a little bit about defense as he’s gathered more knowledge over the years.

The erroneous perspective this board is taking is that this is like Les Miles meddling in the Offense. A dinosaur wanting a dinosaur scheme.

I do not think this will be the case with O.

We know he wants to be more aggressive. We know he’s been around progressive defensive minded coaches throughout his career.

I guess I trust O more than others here.
