I usually am a negatiger, and although Johnson was not my first choice, there is no reason that we should not expect to be in the CWS next year. First off, he was there this year. Second off, we should be returning our entire line-up, with the exception of maybe Dugas, and we have a very highly touted recruiting class coming in. As long as we bring in a good pitching coach, I think anyone is going to be better than Dunn, I don’t see why the expectation is not Omaha. We made it to the Supers this year, (after an easy regional) so I don’t see why we don’t expect our team to be better baseball players next year regardless of the coach. I can understand the fear with pitching, but I expect to see the LSU baseball standard next year.

This belief right here is why LSU is a tough job for anyone that we could have hired. It’s Omaha or bust in his first year apparently

He’ll do better than Mainieri did.

I agree with that. Had Paul never retired, the expectation with this roster for next year would have been Omaha in my belief. If we can all agree that Johnson is a younger mind and an established coach, is it too out of the question to think he should make it?

So you expect a WS trip with every starting rotation in the lineup being new and probably all sophomore. Maybe they’ll find one or two in the transfer portal, if not I don’t see us going far with the arms we had this year!

I expect whoever we bring in as a pitching coach to develop the talent we have on staff. Our offense should be able to pick up the slack until they get in a groove.

It's not Omaha or bust. Although LSU baseball should be in the Top 8 in the country most years.

Competence is what the new head coach should bring. 7-9 hitters under .200 is not competence, all the pitchers we have lost the last 5-6 years is not competence, getting your arse beat in mid week games is not competence, taking 2 months into the season to figure your team is not competence

Is it reasonable to expect Johnson to do about as well his first year at LSU as he did his first year at Arizona?
