I’ve read the weird rule about beer having to be in a cup, but does anyone know if grilling is allowed if your tailgate is not in the grove? I can’t find anything on the Ole Miss tailgating page. Any other quirky rules or Oxford laws we should know about? TIA

Honestly you can just about so whatever you want as long as you’re not an idiot.

We've tailgated and grilled before just outside the Grove. Had no issues.

I’ve been to Oxford at least a dozen times and this is not true. I’ve seen the ole miss popo go on an rv and make the guys pour out their alcohol or go to jail. I’ve seen friends get arrested for jaywalking. Do not push it.

ETA: jaywalking incident was after 2003 game....Dey was pissed.

I've been in the grove quite a few times. They have some weird quirky rules and one of those is no open flames/grills in the groves

We had a table setup one year with 3-4 bottles of liquor on it. Cop came by and made us put it all out of sight. Didn’t make us dump it but it couldn’t be visible. We were setup near band hall FWIW.

You’d think the 2003 SECW Champs would be more graceful in their handling of success.

Seriously though, any cop who would arrest someone for jaywalking needs to be raped with a tire iron.

fricking nerds on a power trip, smh.

No. I disagree. I always thought this was BS until last Friday when a man stepped out into the road in the early morning darkness, jay-walking across four lanes. He was hit and killed by the car that was next to me. If that car hadn't hit him, then I probably would have.

I'm still sick over the incident that really didn't involve me as anything other than a witness - but this is one thing I wish I had never witnessed.

Okay, my little rant is over.

Just set up and hang out away from those folks, as most of them are pompous, arrogant WANNA-BE types. They carry themselves in a way that is almost indescribable. I mean we are talking Mississippi - and OLD Mississippi at that. Just unbelievable how they carry themselves!

Raises hand. Was there in 2009 with friends who had an RV. We had 2 cases of beer in the bed of the truck with the tailgate down. We were cooking breakfast and not drinking yet. Dipshit campus police on a golf cart stopped and told us to open all the beer and pour it out. He sat there and watched us pour it all out. I was livid. Then the guy next to us tried to show him where someone had vandalized their RV and LSU flag during the night and the jackass just drove away.

Been going the last 14 years and haven’t really had many issues. 20 something debutantes will call you a corndog and to frick off, but it’s to be expected. Drink out of a cup when you’re on campus and you shouldn’t have an issue.
