Ole Miss pulls it's offer to Austin Thomas...he apparently doesn't interview well
Ben Garrett, covers Ole Miss:

quote:

#OleMiss has pulled its offer to Austin Thomas.

quote:

I reached out to Ross Bjork for comment on Austin Thomas: “Austin knew exactly the process. He committed to us, told us he was in throughout the process. Kept going back and forth. We want people who want to be at Ole Miss. If he doesn’t want to be here, we don’t want him here.”

Is LSU culpable for his over inflated ego?

This dude is coming across as incredibly childish.

I originally thought it would be a mistake to let him go now Im thinking it was a good choice.

Who does AT think he is?

re: Ole Miss pulls it's offer to Austin Thomas...he apparently doesn't interview well
quote:

Ole Miss has pulled its offer from Austin Thomas. Ole Miss and Thomas actually came to an agreement in December and Thomas knew the process and what it entailed. Ole Miss was required to get an NCAA waiver for Thomas regarding Greg Little, who Thomas recruited previously while at LSU. Ole Miss did get the waiver approved in a timely fashion on Little, who was described to me in regards to Thomas as the at-risk student-athlete. However, there was more to it. Ole Miss would have had to get a waiver on some 2019 prospects who are at-risk due to Thomas, but that process can’t begin until they sign, meaning Ole Miss would be taking a great risk there.

Ole Miss applied and pushed for the Little waiver on Friday and received it on Wednesday. However, Thomas was, and has been, waffling. It became clear to Ole Miss Thomas, per sources, wasn’t committed to the program. “He had a wandering eye,” I was told, which confirmed rumors I heard, and reported earlier this week, about his overtures with Texas A&M, among other schools.

I reached out to Ole Miss athletics director Ross Bjork for comment and he responded. Let me say first before I get to the quote, there’s no athletics director in the country who would be dealing with an operations staffer at this level. Pulling the plug realizing the lack of commitment from Thomas, at least to me, demonstrates that unlike the belief from some about Bjork, he’s all in and is pursing the right and best resources for Ole Miss. It’s become clear that isn’t the case with Thomas. Ole Miss pushed and got the waiver. Ole Miss got a commitment from Thomas in December, and Thomas reaffirmed that commitment as recently as Wednesday and Thursday night. Still, it hasn’t happened yet, and now we know Thomas himself played a role in this, if not the primary role.

“We pulled the offer today,” he said. “Austin knew exactly the process. He knew exactly the timeline and who was at risk from a student-athlete and recruiting prospective. He committed to us and told us he was in throughout the process, including Wednesday night and last night. He kept going back and forth, however, so we pulled our offer. We want people who want to be at Ole Miss. If he doesn’t want to be here, we don’t want him here.”

Not bashing you at all but you make a good point, unintentionally: maybe those of us outside the football ops dont know as much as those inside. Its easy to bash but we usually dont have half the info.

The Austin Thomas saga has really become bizarre.

He went from boy wonder, future AD to someone who burns bridges as soon as he gets his foot in the door.

Life lesson 1: Never believe your own hype.

Admittedly, I believed the Thomas hype and he likely is a good personnel guy, probably just not as good as he thinks he is.

Sounds like Thomas is always just looking for the next best thing.

In the last 2 years he left LSU for USC, came back when we offered more. Left for Tennessee, quit on Tennessee before really starting because of a dispute over what he was really allowed to do, then basically gets handed a job at Ole Miss who is desperate for anything positive right now which he has now screwed up.

Talk about torpedoing a career

So a month or 2 ago everyone was crying about him leaving and how he’s almost irreplaceable, yet no one else wants him.

The young man is over playing his hand, and is a prima dona. It was good for us to cut ties with him. We, as a fan base, elevated him to rock star levels of which he is NOT. Bye AT.

For someone in charge of organizing LSU football he seems completely unorganized outside of that. I believe he was the man for 3 different schools but never worked a day for them.

If you had read this board about two months ago, you would have thought he was the only thing keeping LSU football afloat.

The grass is not always greener. He should understand that. Instead of taking a 6 figure job at Tenn to play Xbox with recruits and schedule recruiting visits, he tried to leverage them for a better position. Then apparently did the same thing at Ole Miss.

There’s about 100,000 25-40 year old men who would do his job for $50,000/year.
