i'm not arguing with you. I am just saying that using the best QB in CFB one year is not a valid comparison tool.

I never saw Hodson or Jones play in person. I do think that JR was the best LSU QB I personally saw.

Was it a lot of people? No

But there were a fair # of fans who thought JR was VY, and could only run.

agree. so how do we compare? I say - the only true way to compare individual players on a team of 22+ is by championships.

Matt Flynn was 10-2 in '07 - there were numerous close games and we lost to teams we shouldn't have.

Russell was 11-2 in '06 - there were numerous blowouts and we lost on the road to Auburn (barely) and got our butt kicked by the National Champs.

Flynn benefited from WVU losing to Pitt. This is something he had absolutely nothing to do with. You have to be an idiot to somehow think that this made him a better QB.

With all the talent that Russell had as a player and the great stats that he put up, how could anybody in their right mind say the Flynn is better than Russell? This is laughable.

And by the way, here are their stats from their final seasons:

Russell: 3129 yards, 67.8 comp%, 28 TD, 8 INT, 167.03 rating

Flynn: 2407 yards, 56.3 comp%, 21 TD, 11 INT, 125.76 rating

SFP is correct about one thing. JR was the BEST QB in college football during his final year at LSU.

JR > Flynn. i think most agree with that.

but if you gave Flynn another year under center, i bet his stats would be better.

Man, I hate this. People forget that JR had 1 more year left, and he was only getting better. He WAS THE best QB in the country as a JR, I would only imagine him being the best again as a SR. And ofcourse with all the hype he received after his JR year (which sadly so made him "legit" to the media), he would have been a no brainer as Heisman favorite. And of course he had a legit chance at going undefeated with that team we had last year.
Taking all that into consideration, I dont see why he doesnt fit the mold of being one of the best QBs in LSU history.
People dont remember that we had Katrina+Rita+WR dropsies+torn wrist ligaments in 2005. He still led us to a 9-1 regular season and an SEC championship appearance, and he was JUST a SO!!

It's sad to see LSU fans think lowly of an LSU QB that has a legit chance at being an All Pro, something we havent had in many years. I know racist is not the right term, but I would imagine things would have been really different if Russell had white skin.

....and why is that....because he has a different opinion??? Sorry, but JR had his fair share of turnovers at critical times in games....I am not to just go along with "the greatest LSU QB ever" just because he can wing it 70+ yards.....

don't base it off of his physical ability. why do you retards always go to his physical ability?

look at the stats. they tell the story

End of debate....if we're talking about the greatest QB....not the best QB on the best team...but head-to-head stats....it's not even a question. Is Flynn then better than Hodson or Jones or Risher etc. just because the LSU team he was on won a NC.....the anti-JR crowd on here amazes me sometimes.

no, because Oakland has been praising his work ethic, and he hasn't gained any weight since being in Oakland. He was talking out of his arse

and what has JR that labels him a selfish guy? Everything I have read about him in Oakland has said otherwise

I am not anti JR.......I just have a different opinion when it comes to stating that JR is the best LSU QB ever.......we have been blessed with some awesome talent at the QB position over the years.....the game of football has changed, the talent has changed, and opponents have changed.....I don't think you can just give it to JR because of his stats

As a former LSU player, I hope he does well in Oakland.....I also hope they give JR an offensive line.......that being said, I am not convinced that he was the best LSU QB ever......
