OL line appears to still be a mess - 5 sacks!

I'm a firm believer that our OL will determine the overall success of this team and hearing they gave up 5 sacks isn't promising! I don't understand why there is just a huge drop off with the OL and that has been the problem for years. We need great OL play or we are doomed for losses against the top tier teams. Bad OL play means the defense gets little rest and the offense isn't scoring much, which both point to losses. This has been going on for years and I just don't get why this is the case!!!!

Sacks in scrimmages are weak. Probably half of those are real sacks, just FWIW.

It really is something and it’s a decade long problem at this point.

However, if anything can help a weak OL it’s an offense that gets the ball out of the QBs hands quickly. That will be the difference this year. The staff seems to understand that lining up 2 TEs and putting the QB under center isn’t the best idea anymore.

I’m hopefully optimistic I guess.

We’ve improved since last year - that’s a good thing. I chalk this statistic up to three things:

1. We have an elite defense and I mean ‘elite’
2. Defense will always be ahead of offense in pre-season
3. They were playing ‘touch the qb’. I hear 3 were legit.

A few reasons you should calm down:

1. Coach O said that he was calling sacks early, and someone on here said that it should’ve been more like 3 sacks

2. Our pass rush is probably top 10 in the country this year

3. Wouldn’t those 3 sacks include those given up by the second string offense? if so, then it’s plausible that the starting OL only gave up 1 sack maybe 2.

4. Coach O keeps saying that Saahdiq and Deculus are having a good camp. I don’t think he’d put an emphasis on that if they were playing so awful.

QBs can’t break sacks in scrimmage because you can’t hit QB.

Have had this problem for years! No telling what Borrow could do with an offense line!

You are overlooking that we scored a bunch of TD’s, and gained a bunch of yards against one of the best defenses in the country. Sounds like the OL is coming around and will be solid.

No way to determine if it is a problem or not. The QB isn't live in a scrimmage. most of the time ot is like playing touch football. 2 hands and the QB is down.

We have officially switched from a QB deficiency to an OL deficiency. It's our new built-in excuse.

I really don’t see how people can’t comprehend this, but alas, they cannot.

Who's making excuses?

The ignorance about how scrimmages are played here is astounding. It's LSU vs LSU the entire game, and it's basically touch football on the QB.

Ok

Not optimal.

But.
They are playing against LSU defense, one of the best in the land.
Defense tends to gel before offense.
And if the O dominated the D, we would be panicked about the pass rush!

Have patience Grasshopper and pray for no more injuries!
