Love Gundy, and there is no doubt that we would have run into a buzz saw in the form of that perennial powerhouse Okie State D.

"Had we been able to beat Iowa State we would have totally beat LSU!"

re: Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy talks about the 2011 LSU team
quote:

whether or not LSU scored points outside of the 9 total in the two Bama games that year.

Les counted on the defense and special teams to score points with JJ at QB. Didn't work vs Bama. Twice
quote:

LSU won even though Jordan Jefferson completed only five passes and the offense totaled a mere 237 yards.

So in a shootout, with the guy that tutored under Miles, it would have been more interesting than people imagine. Specifically because of Miles stubborn stupidity

He coaches at Kansas now because of it

You’re right there’s no telling what would’ve happened. With JJ under center we would’ve given them the ball back so many times it’s very likely they could’ve scored enough to beat us. We got by a couple teams with him at QB but you give any DC a month to prepare for Jefferson and he’s going to shut him down. West Virginia put up 533 yards on us that season and Okie State is a much bigger challenge. Plus with a pair of NFL DBs to man up they could’ve committed 9 to the run if they wanted. We could’ve won the game but it’s not nearly the cake walk some believe it would’ve been.

I’ve always said the 9-6 victory was the beginning of the end for Les. The Bully Ball worked versus everyone except Bama because they had the talent to match and dominate LSU at the line. Saban brought in Gregg Williams to fix his mistakes from 11/5/11 and then exposed Les, who rested on his laurels.

Should have beaten an average at best Iowa State team, but that’s on him. Too much of that season is remember by people based on the rematch vs Alabama. The fact is, LSU beat some very good teams that year. I think LSU would have won convincingly.

No way could we move the ball.

Think LSU would have won like 38-20 something along those lines.

LSU would have won something like 60-17. LSU's defense would have forced 4-5 turnovers and would have built a big lead. Les would have just ran the ball and Okie Light would have never stopped the run. LSU might have had 3 backs go for over a 100 yards and might not have punted all night.

We would have won that game the same as every other. Close in the first half then TM7 makes a game changing play and we pour it on. Our defense that year was SPECIAL!

re: Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy talks about the 2011 LSU team
quote:

Mike Gundy’s son, Gunnar Gundy, is a rising senior quarterback at Stillwater (Okla.) High School.

His recruitment finally picked up speed after a solid performance at the St. Louis regional edition of The Opening and Stillwater’s runner-up finish in Oklahoma’s Class 6A-II as a junior.

The younger Gundy currently holds two scholarship offers, but neither are from Oklahoma State (he’s being recruited by Eastern Michigan and Toledo). So what gives? And would father even consider coaching son in Stillwater?

The answer to that came at the Big XII media days, where the elder Gundy provided powerful testimony to his sense of egalitarianism. “I told him that if you come to Oklahoma State, I’ll coach you like I do everybody else, maybe harder,” Mike Gundy said during Big XII media days.

If you are the best player then you’ll play. If not, then you won’t play even though I am sleeping with your mother.”

LSU would have beat the everloving frick out of Oklahoma State like they did to everywhere except Alabama. It would have been like most games that year. A decently close first half with LSU delivering body blows. Then LSU pounding and pounding all game and breaking it open in the 2nd half. LSU’s O line and running game crushed teams not named Alabama in 2011.

re: Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy talks about the 2011 LSU team

You do realize LSU didn't score a point against Bama in 2011, right? With Jefferson running the offense, anything could have happened. And did

Yeah, slight difference between the best pure defense in the modern era of college football (the last defense to give up under 10 points per game at 8 ppg and only 183 yards per game) and Okie Dokie St. who gave up more than 3x the points Bama gave up and 456 yards per game (106th in the nation that year).

LSU had to beat the best pure defense in the modern era of college football in their house and they did, 9-6.

Okie State scored a lot of points. They were 2nd in the nation in that. Oregon was one spot behind them - see what happened to Oregon when LSU played them. Anything can happen, but odds are heavy that LSU would have wiped the floor with them like they did with every other team on the schedule not named Alabama.

They were 90th in rush D. LSU would have run all over them and just kept their offense off the field. For comparison, UGA finished #5 in total D and were a top 10 rushing defense going into the SEC title game. Jefferson only completed 5 passes and accounted for 25 total yards in the game and LSU still ran all over UGA for 200+ yards averaging 5.9 ypc and won 42-10.

quote:

West Virginia put up 533 yards on us that season and Okie State is a much bigger challenge.

And LSU still won by 26 points. It was 27-7 at half.
