I’m trying to consolidate all the Turang threads to one. Here you will find the latest information on the Brice Turang watch:

Signing Deadline is July 6th!

Will update as I receive information.

2018 Milwaukee Brewers Top 10 Draft Picks

Brewers Total Cap Space = $3,481,195
- This includes the extra 5% overage

24th rounder Beasley signs “Beasley will receive a signing bonus of $257,500. $132,500 of that will count against the bonus pool. #Brewers #MLBDraft” That knocks the total they can give Turang down to $3,481,195.“

1/21. Brice Turang (SS) (HS) - $3,013,600 – Word is his asking price is $4,500,000

2/60. Joe Gray Jr (OF) (HS) - $1,113,500 – Signed - Full slot value

2/73. Micah Bello (OF) (HS) - $824,900 – Committed to St. Marys - Signed - $550,000

4/125. Aaron Ashby (LHP) (SO-JUCO) - $438,300 – Signed - $520,000

5/155. Justin Jarvis (RHP) (HS) - $327,100 – committed to UNCW - Signed - $327,100

6/185. Drew Rasmussen (RHP) (RS-SR)- $251,700 – Signed - $135,000

7/215. David Fry (C) (SR) - $197,000 – SR catcher - signed for $10,000 - saves Brewers $187,000

8/245. Luis Gonzalez (RHP) - $161,400 – From Puerto Rico - Signed - $125,000

9/275. Albert Cipion (OF) (HS) - $146,200 Signed - $138,200

10/305. JT Hintzen (RHP) - $138,200 – Signed - $10,000

The amounts listed next to each player’s name is the slot value for that draft position. I will try and keep this thread updated as I receive information. If anyone has any information on the players above, please post and I will update the OP.

“The Brewers over-slot signings of Korry Howell and Reese Olson combined for $400K against their bonus pool. If the Brewers made no other over-slot signings and were willing to go up to 5% over their bonus pool they would now have up to $3,613,695 they could offer Brice Turang.”

The last thing I heard on Ashby is that he's planning to sign with the Brewers, but wants no less than $500k.

Well that blows. Not sure why any first round junior would go back to school...

He's going to try to squeeze the Brewers for everything he can (as he should) and the way to do that is paint the picture that he is absolutely serious about coming to LSU. In the end though, he signs with Milwaukee unless it's a Bo Jackson type of situation (though two different sports) in that he simply just does not want to play in the Brewers organization. If that is the case, then he will charge a "premium" for him to play in that organization.

This scenario could play out until classes begin in August, correct?

July 6th. And the Brewers can spend a bout $300k more than the bonus pool without losing a pick in next year's draft if they want to.

I think they are one of the teams that has never gone above pool. Only 3 teams never have.

Without knowing much about how these negotiations work, the difference (1.5 mil) in Turang's slot and what he's asking seems significant. Wonder how much he is willing to come down or if there's a certain number that they have to meet for him to stay at the table.

This, he may say his number is $4.5M, and say over and over he wants to go to LSU...but i nthe end, Brewers might save half a mil or so on other picks and offer him $3.5M, and he'll likely take it. Honestly, likely a smart decision to take it. He could come to school and potentially get drafted higher and higher slot, but the chances of also getting worse is pretty high.

Still a very small percent Turang comes to LSU
The parameters were there for Milwaukee to draft him that high to begin with.
In the end, Turang camp will try and squeeze as much out of them as they can.
With that said, if Milwaukee doesn't agree to terms they will compensation in next year's draft.

Posting this here, because I just posted in another thread, and this thread is better. Was in response to someone saying the ONLY benefit was getting an education.

That is where you are dead wrong. He was drafted late in the first round, with a slot of around 3 million. If he goes to school I believe it's super realistic to expect him to be drafted top 5, which is anywhere between 5-2 million more in slot value.

So, let's put in all in prespective, since you say getting an education is the ONLY benefit to coming to LSU.

1. Obviously the education

2. Moving up in the first round allows him to make a lot more money. Obviously, there is no guarantee he moves up in the first round, but chances are he does.

3. Three years in college will make him 3 years older, wiser, stronger, playing against great competition. Similar to the level of minor league ball.

4. Is a combination of 2 And 3. While his signing bonus would be nice, his journey through the minors will not result in a big pay check. So, as he works his way up, that signing bonus will slowly (or quickly if he isn't smart with it) disappear. So, going to LSU could potentially both earn him a much much larger bonus plus get him closer to playing in the MLB quicker (see Bregman).

Now....all that being said, he probably will sign with the Brewers. However, it isn't as far fetched and as crazy as some of you think.

I think he probably signs..but we have to admit Milwaukee drafting him was about as good as we could hope for..at least there’s hope
