OBJ Banned from LSU: is this still a thing?
Posted by BilbeauTBaggins on 7/15/21 at 2:43 pm164
With NIL finally in effect, this shouldn't be a thing anymore.
Also: I thought that he only gave cash to players that were already getting drafted/graduated?
Forget about the fact that it was only a 2 year ban, but the guy was about to drop some cash on the track program for some new facilities.

NIL is not the same as slapping hundos in guys’ hands after a game.
That dude was faded as frick that night on national TV. I’d love to see him back sooner than later as an ambassador for LSU, but he needs to sit in timeout for a little longer until he gets his shite together

He wasn’t banned for handing players money (which a former player just handing current players money is still against NCAA rules). He was banned for doing it where everyone saw him handing money to players. LSU had to do something they couldn’t just let that happen and not take some sort of action. If he did it in the locker room with no cameras and only the players and coaches saw him there would have been no issue.

NIL is basically opening the door to allowing his actions to do that. While it does carry some pay-for-play vibes, it can easily be spun into something else that makes the money clean.

Should be banned forever.

No it isn’t. I don’t think people have a full grasp of what can and can’t be done.

What he did will never be allowed. Now if he were to own a business and wanted to have a current player endorse his business he can then sign a contract with the player.

Anybody ever mention the first Browns game in prime time when he and Landry both said their High School's names instead of LSU on the short offensive intro the first time Cleveland got the ball? WTF was that about!

No, it's not. Not even a little bit. Some of you spout the same nonsense on this board regularly, but clearly have zero understanding about how this works.

If this wasn’t all for show then LSU wouldn’t be selling his No. 3 jersey and autographs on campus and online right now. For all those saying he should be banned forever, stop acting like pussies.

Stripping naked and running around the field wouldn't be an NCAA violation, but he would have gotten a ban if he did that. What he did was an embarrassment to the program and deserved punishment no matter how you try to rationalize it.

Players throughout the league do things like this. They aren’t the only two and I wouldn’t read too much into it. I believe there is a montage on YouTube that goes through some of the funnier ones.

Jontre Kirklin was one of the players he gave money to. He’s still on the team.

Yeah, I'm fully aware that players do that pretty often. What I'm reading into it is that's a great opportunity to put the LSU brand out there on national tv where recruits can see it---especially when there are 2 of them in the same quick segment. Blown opportunity.

No, no, and more no. Nothing about what he did would be allowed under NIL for pretty obvious reason.

You’re thinking too much into it. Most people that know who Odell and Juice are, know where they played college ball at.

Forever is a long time.
But, LSu cant afford for this guy to do anymore stupid stuff in the near future. Maybe after his NFL playing days and some gained maturity, they can reconsider his ban

Everyone that follows the NFL knows they went to LSU
