I think someone may have done one of these earlier this week, but I think LSU has a very good chance to play a good football team in a New Year's 6 Bowl Game. I think we all agree that we should win the rest of our games, so that leaves Auburn and Mississippi State as the only two teams ahead of us. Auburn should lose to both Alabama and Georgia making them 8-4. Mississippi State, in my opinion, is about to get blown out by Alabama this week and ends the season playing Ole Miss in a game that Ole Miss will be playing like it's the Super Bowl. Even if Mississippi State wins a close one against Ole Miss, we probably would jump them after finishing the season 6-1 with the only loss being to the best team in the country and three straight convincing wins. I feel like after all that we could be ranked around 15 and maybe higher if things go well. A hot LSU team could be very exciting for a whole lot of bowl games and could put us in a fun matchup against a top 10 team in the Cotton Bowl or Orange Bowl.

Also, Georgia and Bama probably would have to both make the CFP.

I'm not counting on LSU being a part of the NY6 bowls. One, BOTH UGA and Bama have to make the playoffs for LSU to have a shot. Call me skeptical, but I just don't see the committee putting both in after having just played the SECCG. I think they will probably look at the SECCG as "game 1" of the playoffs. Make no mistake, the committee is HUGE Auburn fans these last 3 weeks because they don't want to have to justify leaving out a 1 loss SEC team whose only loss was to the SEC champ.

Two -- If State finishes the season 9-3 (5-3), it will be very hard to put them in over a fellow 9-3 team they absolutely crushed head-to-head (LSU). MSU can't also be 9-3 (which is possible)

Three - What if AU pulls the upset over either UGA or Bama? It is certainly possible. Auburn isn't bad and they get both teams at home.

I think the best really REALISTIC scenario for LSU is to maybe get Penn St. or Ohio St. in the Outback Bowl. That would be probably be a more anticipated matchup then some of the NY6 bowls

isn't a large part of rant about saying what you think will happen?

Assuming only one SEC team makes the playoff,

That would mean an SEC team would likely play in no less than 2 of the Peach, Cotton, and Citrus Bowls, and possibly 3.

Who are the candidates?

loser of SEC Championship Game (12-1 or 11-2), LSU (9-3), Miss State (9-3), Auburn (8-4 or 9-3), and South Carolina (8-4 unless they somehow upset Clemson)

I think barring an Auburn upset of Georgia or South Carolina upset of Clemson, LSU would have the second or third best resume.

We'll get a good bowl game.

Hmm. Weren't we in the same position last year about this time...

Needed to win out for NY6 spot, favored by at least a touchdown (if not double digits) in the remaining games. Let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet.

Watch if Georgia wins. Alabama will be taken care of.

I do believe Moo State will fare well against Bama. They have a very capable QB that can run.

We have to cheer for Notre Dame to run the table for a NYE6. If Bama and UGA both make play off the at large spot The SEC could get would go to ND (if not in playoff)

It’s crazy how this exact week last year we were coming off of the same loss, got ranked 24th and have the same slim chance to make NY6 bowl. Let’s see what we do with the opportunity this time around.

Seems like assuming some wins is what got us a big Moo St whoopin. Slow down.

You're right, I didn't read that you said we would win out. But to consider a NY6 bowl that was implied. I think a lot of people are assuming we win the next 3 right now. Dangerous.

2 assumptions being made:

First, that LSU wins out. I think that should happen, but history says otherwise. And that history wasn't just Miles, as Orgeron's team last year blew a shot at the Sugar.

Second and bigger assumption is that 2 SEC schools get in. I seriously doubt that will happen if there are ANY other options; the rest of the country doesn't want it. And the committee was formed to prevent it. Yes, there is a slight chance Alabama still gets in if they lose to Georgia, but I think zero chance for Georgia if they lose. The rest of the nation would prefer the Big 10 champ, even if they have more losses.

The one big problem in you scebario is I don’t think Bama is the best team in the country and could very well lose to Auburn and UGA. Heck, MSU will give them a game very similar to ours but they may be closer.

I agree with this. LSU could very well stub their toe on any of the remaining opponents. Any of those three could very well beat this team.

After Moo State U and Troy, you would think even the least aware Ranters would be hesitant to take any future hypothetical wins as “givens” or slam-dunks.

LSU still has Arkansas, Tennessee, and aTm ahead. Any or all of these are capable of pulling out a win under the right conditions. Example: We did beat Bama statistically, but they still won the game on the scoreboard.

How about we just take it a week at a time, a game at a time, and let the bowl picture sort itself out? Meanwhile focus on beating the Piggies first?
