If we didn't have Morgan at 1B Thompson would not look as good. The hitting has sizzled down since his HR start as well.

Too bad Dugas can't play 3B. I would like to see more of Safford and Cranford. I would like to move Around to 3B and let Thompson move to his more natural position of SS.

I'm also not convinced that Cranford shouldn't be playing over Thompson.

The throw from third is a little harder, but your SS is involved in a lot of plays. If Thompson is this erratic at third I don’t think SS is the answer. Too bad Cranford can’t hit, but even Arnold’s throws have looked a little shakey.

I think Thompson glove is fine and has a cannon. Accurate throws are the issue, plus he is more comfortable at SS. Cranford hit 7 of his last 13 at bats. Is Cranford worse than Thompson as far as hitting?

Either put Safford at 3B or move Arnold there and let Cranford and Thompson battle out SS

You mean 2 games ago?
Yesterday was hist first start that he didnt have a hit.
I dont think he has the position locked up or anything, but i think he deserves some more chances. His arm, his speed, and his pop in that bat deserve more looks.

If he keeps struggling, id expect cranford or safford to get some looks there

In a perfect world Drost or Dugas would be able to handle third base. That would give us what seems like an optimal line up. I have no clue if Drost is even an option at third, but Dugas should be at least considered, considering he played second base for us before. I would like to see that at least tried in a midweek game.

Dugas hasn't screwed up in LF yet, but he doesn't look exactly fluid in LF.

It’s 4 games in. No one should be sold on anything regarding the freshmen other than Morgan is a defensive stud. Crews should be in pro ball. And Hellmers never should have gotten a look at 3B.

Since Drost is left handed I would say he is an unlikely option at third.

InB4 ell and or hcb “couldn’t be any worse than Hellmers”

You are right. I'm dumb. I won't even edit, because I deserve the hate for that.

You may have been thinking of Sanford.

I wasn't, but you are correct. That would have made me look like less of a dumbass.

It's early. Everyone gets one mulligan before coffee.

I heard they even tried Crews at 3B. I'm assuming it didn't get much traction.

So far I think we are looking at this.

C - Milazzo we know is in their for defense. Anything from his bat is a bonus. I'm not going to call this position locked, because Wyeth will get opportunities, and if he shows he can handle behind the dish while continuing to hit, he might earn himself more time.

1B - Morgan has locked up. No consideration needed.

2B - Doughty will be in the lineup. He seems comfortable at second right now.

3B - still open. This is the key position to allow Drost in the line up when Gio returns. Would be great if Dugas could handle it to free up a OF spot.

SS- Arnold will be in the lineup. Maybe he gets a look at third ultimately, but his bat isn't leaving the order.

LF/CF - If Drost continues to hit, and Gio comes back it gets very crowded.

RF - Crews is the best player on the team.

I'm pleasantly surprised that we have so many positions that seem to be pretty solidified so early. Now it's just shuffling around a bit with the order, and locking those final few spots in and then we roll. It's coming together faster than I thought.

The good news is most of our position players will be back next year. Pitching on the other hand is going to take a hit.

Yeah, we are missing the perfect storm by one season. Our pitching will certainly be at the level for deep run, but the young bats will have to really progress through the season to make it happen. Fast forward to next season and it'll be the opposite. The lineup will be very experienced and should be able to put up runs. The pitching will be the one depending on the younger arms to make it happen. Luckily, just like the bats this year, the talent is there. Hopefully some of them can really step up this year so that they are ready to fill the holes in the staff next year.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Dugas at 3rd. Anyone know if he has practiced or played there at all? I feel like if you move him there it opens the opportunity to get another great bat in the lineup.

Not taking anything away from Thompson, he has done well.

I think cranford is your best defensive option but his bat will struggle
