Etling "I lacked the chest..... on the deep throws"
Just kidding, Etling's got the heart, just not the arm, here's the real scoop from NOLA.com

quote:Etling has plenty of arm for a SEC QB. He just hesitates too long to throw it. He does not have enough arm to wait an extra half second on a deep route. He MUST get rid of it earlier. I dont see him making this correction though, he has been late pretty much his entire career.

no he doesn't, he gets happy, but slow feet, real early, gets confused easily, does not have the arm strength or quick wits to be a big time SEC qb
ETA: quick reaction time to replace quick wits

On two of those long passes to Chark, it looked like the throw was there, but Chark misjudged it. Not the underthrow, on two of the other throws.

It was the cause for his INT in the Bama game.

He is plenty arm talented.

If anyone pays attention they have seen Elting throw some outs that were darts. But he just doesn't trust what he sees.
With our DL back damn near full strength, I hope the coaches just tell him to let her rip thru the next four games. We should be able to overcome a turnover for our next three for sure.

Ive said this before in other threads but he throws the receiver into coverage. His hesitation allows the defender to regain coverage.

Peyton Manning didn’t have a great arm but his greatest asset was knowing who would be open before the snap, based on defensive alignment, and he threw a very catchable ball.

SEC Heisman QBs
Steve Spurrier – 1966
Pat Sullivan - 1971
Danny Wuerffel – 1996
Tim Tebow – 2007
Cam Newton – 2010
Johnny Manziel – 2012
Not sure which of those guys lacked arm strength. Teebow had issues with his mechanics but I seem to recall he wasn't weak armed.

until he got hurt he had a laser beam arm

He throws deep balls off of his back foot. His follow through looks horrible to the naked eye. He could probably get a tad more zip on the deep ones with the proper technique, but he has four more games so I really don't give a shite. I just hope our future QBs are coached up well. It was too late for Danny by the time Canada arrived. Changing his fundamentals at that point would have probably hurt more than helped.
