Caglianone is a Sophomore and he can try again next year. I like our chances of bring home the most prestigious trophy in amateur baseball.

They can give it to whoever they want. Saying they shouldn't give it to someone just because they're a sophomore is dumb.

Won't he get drafted this year? I think he's a draft eligible sophomore.

They absolutely will give it to Caglianone

Had Crews not had his slip at the end of the season, he’d be the winner no doubt

He and Skenes will split the votes and they will give it to the two way player with 31 home runs

I don't think so. You would see his name on prospect lists if so and I don't recall seeing him.

Obviously I would be thrilled in Skenes won, and he definitely deserves it as much as the others, but I kinda feel like it should go to the best all around player. Crews is dominant every game, in the field and at the plate. Skenes is dominant on the bump once per week. Which is incredible, don’t get me wrong.
Maybe that’s dumb, but it’s just an opinion. I just hope an LSU player wins it.

He is listed as the top prospect in the 2024 draft. LINK

In that case they should probably give it to Cags.

Leads the nation in HRs and is a legit Sunday starter in the SEC. He has a pretty strong case IMO

And he’s still batting 100 points higher than Caglianone, with 100 more points in OBP.

Either way, they are both great, Crews in my opinion is the better player, but wouldn’t be surprised if Cags won it.

Not saying cag is the best player by any means BUT they should give the award to the best player regardless of his class. Saying whomever shouldn’t get it because he’s an underclass man is dumb.

I don't think a lot of people understand how the voting works. The LSU fan splitting votes between the 2 will have minimal impact on the selection of who wins it. Fans only make up 5% of the decision.

The 2023 Golden Spikes Award Selection Process
USA Baseball compiled an initial list of more than 150 candidates for the award prior to the start of the 2023 amateur baseball season. The list is based on preseason recommendations and will also include rolling nominations throughout the regular season to ensure that all players are considered. USA Baseball officials will review this list with the Golden Spikes Award Advisory Board and unveil the 2023 Golden Spikes Award 55-player preseason watch list on February 10.

On April 5, USA Baseball and the Golden Spikes Award Advisory Board will select and release the 45-player midseason watch list. On May 22, the Advisory Board will trim the number of players down and USA Baseball will announce the semifinalists. Beginning with the announcement of semifinalists, a ballot will be sent to the Golden Spikes Award voting body consisting of national baseball media, select professional baseball personnel, previous Golden Spikes Award winners, and select USA Baseball staff, totaling a group of over 150 voters. From Monday, May 22–Monday, May 29, the voting body will select the top semifinalists from the ballot to be named as Golden Spikes Award finalists and fan voting will simultaneously be open on GoldenSpikesAward.com. Fans will have the opportunity to vote up to 25 times per day for their favorite semifinalists. Selections made by the Golden Spikes Award voting body will carry a 95% weight of each athlete's total, while fan votes will account for the remaining 5%.

The finalists will then be announced on Wednesday, June 7, and USA Baseball will send a final ballot to the aforementioned voting body that same day. From June 7–June 12, the voting body members may select one finalist from the ballot to be the Golden Spikes Award winner. Fan voting will reopen simultaneously during this time, and fans will be able to submit up to 25 votes per day for their favorite finalist on GoldenSpikesAward.com. Final selections made by the voting body and fans will again carry a 95% and 5% weight of each player's total votes, respectively.

The 2023 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award will be presented on Friday, June 25.

This is the explanation of how it works from the Golden Spikes website.

Yea no doubt, but other than more homeruns Crews beats him in every other category. Plus he’s an All-American center fielder. A very demanding position.
The SEC pitcher thing is the reason I could see Cags winning it and agree with you.

Another thing to mention that nobody is talking about is that the award also takes into account "sportsmanship", which I have heard that the voting committee uses that to also gauge off the field type stuff. I think Skenes and Crews probably both have the upper hand on Cags when it comes to that.

I had no clue they took that into account.

If it has anything to do with leadership, Sportsmanship, community awareness. Crews has it locked up. The guy exemplifies an all around player on and off the field.

Crews–who earned Baton Rouge Regional MVP honors after helping the Tigers advance to the Super Regional–is making his seventh appearance on a Golden Spikes Award list, having been named to the preseason, midseason, and semifinalist lists in each of the past two seasons.

I think it’s time to give him the award.

Cag has a serious shot.

337avg 31 hr 84 rbi
7-3 3.73 era 81 Ks in the SEC.

That’s a pretty impressive resume.

Harper won it at 17 years old while playing at a junior college. It was obvious that he was going #1 overall and wasn't playing any more amateur ball after that.

Why isn't Skenes or Crews on that list at all?
