The casket for Dr. Cannon was also paid for by offenders at Angola State Penitentiary. Warden Darrel Vannoy says it’s the first time that has ever happened.

Nice send-off for a Tiger legend. He died at age 80 meaning his life could be divided into 4 quarters of 20. Very fitting!

Rest in Peace Mr. Cannon!

I watched the funeral on my cell phone at the office today. Congratulations to LSU for taking such good care of one of its greatest heroes. It was a first class tribute.

No joke. Seeing that picture in the PMAC got me....Billy's grand daugther, Kim is in that picture (third one from the right). She was a very close friend of mine in college, but we have lost touch a little since then. I once watched her do a ball point pen dot art drawing of Billy from his playing days. It took her MONTHS to do it but once it was done, it just blew my mind. He was absolutely elated when she gave it to him. I know this is kind of a random story, but just something I always thought was very cool. Good peeps up there on that stage

It was FIRST CLASS.

I was in attendance and witnessed the ceremony.

Billy Cannon's family had to be very pleased.

May Billy Cannon souls and all the souls of the faithfully departed Rest In Peace. Amen

Hits you right in the feels....

Billy made some mistakes, but he paid for them and really turned himself around. I imagine he had quite an impact on many of the inmates he worked on at the Big House.

RIP Billy Cannon. God's speed.

He was truly an inspiration to the inmates at Angola. He turned their dental program around and eventually was over the entire medical program. A lot of props go to Burl Cain who had the wisdom to entice Cannon there and gave him free rein to run the medical show.

You might choose say a lot about Cannon or Cain negatively but my experience with both was top shelf.
