Breaking: #LSU lead defensive analyst Ronnie Wheat has accepted the safeties coach job at Nevada.

It's the Mississippi native's first on-field FBS coaching job after being on staff with the Tigers since the 2013 season.

Since 2013? Were they hiding him in a bunker? I've never heard that name before.

Good for him, I suppose. That's a long time to be an analyst.

Congrats Wheat! Hope you have a long and successful coaching career. Thanks for what you did here and your part in helping bringing a CFPNC here to LSU.

I agree 100%, thanks for your service. Always positive when you can double your salary and move up the coaching ranks (analyst to a FT position)

I think he was a GA for a couple years and then an analyst.

Me either but outside of Mangas and Munoz I couldn’t tell you the name of another Analyst from last season

Well I guess meatball counts but he’s a special case

The losses are really a positive. Most of these guys were not that well known they worked hard because they were hungry for success and experience now they are off.

There are many more out there that have that hunger for success and will fill the holes and we will not have any complacency.

Were staying on top.

Steal ? The guy goes from an analyst position to an on field coaching position. A step up for the young man. It’s the name of the game in athletics coaching. I always wanted a staff full of guys that had the potential to replace me. Some could, but had to move on when the opportunity knocked. I never viewed it as stealing, even if it was to a competitor.

Footnote: Besides, I also knew his weaknesses:-)

Cant fault an analyst for jumping to a position job. It's a good thing actually... nobody wants these analyst jobs permanently. They're stepping stones to on field jobs. If you prove LSU is a pathway to do that, you can land some talented guys in those roles.

Because he's going to Nevada. Some things that seem like promotions on the surface, actually turn out to be detrimental to your career. There is something to be said for job security.

I wish him the best, and hopefully it works out well for him.
