From my understanding, he was a one-and-done no matter what coming out of high school. And, before the season started most mock drafts had him as a top-20 pick, correct? It seems like he’s slipped into the second round on most mocks now. Does it not make sense for him to come back and try to work on his game and get drafted higher for more money? Or is it too risky because he could get injured? Or is it possible if he came back he didn’t get better and his stock drops even more?

I know he’s likely gone, guess I just don’t fully understand the advantage of him leaving.

He’s one and done. His ceiling is too high to slip out of the first round.

If he's legitimately being projected as a second rounder then I'd imagine he'd be back. He will declare for the draft but he can retain his eligibility.

So, why do most mock drafts have him as a second-round pick?

It’s not the time to worry about this. He will declare, go to some workouts and evaluations, and get a clear idea of where he could go. Then decide to stay in the draft or not. The mock drafts you read are no really accurate at this point.

He could come back, but not likely. Players can develop in the pros.

What's crazy is that all he needs is a Tyrus Thomas Final Four tournament run, putting-it-all-together showing off all his potential talent, and he's a Top 5 pick.

I'm hoping this happens.

After the combine he will be a first round pick.

The NBA draft process is completely different than the NFL. The deadline to declare is April 21. He'll go through the combine, team workouts and interviews to find out where he stands in the draft. He can then elect to withdraw from the draft by June 10, though I think the NCAA requires notification by the end of May.

Waters did this last year. Naz will do it this year. He'll know exactly where he stands before having to make a decision.

He already looks like a 35 year old, so he may not have many years left to play at an elite level.

You can make a bunch of money in the G league so there really isn’t a big negative about taking the risk going pro anymore. With that said strictly talking basketball I think he could improve with another year

What's a bunch of money? It's nowhere near what he'd make as a lottery pick.

If he's not projected as a lottery pick he should come back.

Honestly, you don't have to understand it, but I do think we all need to accept it. He's not coming back next year and it does not really matter if we think he's ready or not.

Players actually can develop and get better somewhere other than the college program they play for one year and for me that's the one disconnect folks don't seem to be able to understand. In fact NBA teams would rather develop them themselves with no restrictions in their system.

This is absolutely false. He’s a 2nd rounder without a shadow of a doubt

G league is good money and probably as good if not a better place to develop. How many projected second rounders become lottery picks the next year? Once again I want him to stay but acting like it’s a Huge mistake either way is a outdated opinion

He certainly could be a second, but it’s far from certain at this point. Lots of games, evaluations, combines, etc.

Shadow of a doubt? That’s laughable.
