Wanted to start a discussion thread with somewhat serious hoops talk going forward as we are 1 month away from the tournament. Most of these bracketologists are pretty accurate (not nec now) but as we get a little closer to the tourney.

LINK

If you study this bracket (and I know it will change) but avoiding the South is priority (UVA FSU, UK (big injury last night) Buffalo and even Purdue with their scorer...really tough bracket...

But in the West, you are going to have Gonzaga as #1 (don't see this changing and to me vulnerable) but you know they ship a blue blood out West to even up the West...prob UNC) but looking at teams like Iowa, Houston (scary team but I would invite a revenge game against UH)) VA Tech (no PG) and Texas Tech (awesome defensively) but none of these scare the pants off of you.

Besides Duke....are there any teams you are looking to avoid?

I am really high on FSU, Nevada and Texas Tech to go deep in the tourney...hopefully LSU gets favorable draw and keeps on winning. Winning these next 2 games to propel us to #2 seed discussions.

I am PRAYING we get in the West bracket. Gonzaga seems to always blow it along the way except for the one year they didn't. If we get in there, there's a legitimate chance we are in the Final Four.

I don’t love teams that try to grind to a halt. Missouri wanted to do it and it worked mostly. We’ll see against Florida that. For that reason, I don’t love a match up with UVa

The latest 3 projections I’ve seen have us playing Old Dominion in the first round in every single projection. 2 as a 3 seed vs. 14 seed, 1 as a 4 seed vs. 13 seed. To your point, a revenge game against Florida State, and Houston wouldn’t be bad. I don’t think Texas Tech would be able to handle us. They have Jarrett Culver, if we take him out we win. I wouldn’t mind Nevada as the 2 seed in our bracket. Gonzaga is a tough team. They have a lot of talent, and solid players. Virginia we need to avoid as our 1 seed. I definitley would want Michigan State as the 2 seed in our bracket. They lost 2 of their best players to injury, and don’t look the same.

Duke is the only team I would prefer us not being in their regional. I like our 8 guys verse any rotation in the country. Even against Duke i think we can matchup and compete for 40 minutes. Zion and Rj barrett are prone to getting frustrated and emotional in close games, i think this LSU teams maturity could cause problems for Duke. Try to get Zion in foul trouble and set up some plays where Tre comes on a double team to Zion and takes the ball from him when he doesnt see it coming.
My buddies who are a bunch of Duke fans don’t want us in their regional

As long as we don't draw Dukes bracket we'll be fine. Gonzaga is pretty good this year would probably like to avoid them as well.

UVA doesn't scare me and all the 2 seeds are vulnerable.

Don't get Murray st in the first round

A team like Iowa St. is always scary because they have the ability to bombard you from 3. The flip side is when they are off, they have a tough time competing.

Teams that wan to grind the game to a halt and force LSU to execute in the half court and who can also rebound would be a team I'm worried about. Michigan St. and Maryland kind of fit that profile. Then again, maybe no one fit it better than Kentucky and we saw what happened there.

Florida will be a good test for LSU tonight. They want to make this a "Big 10" game and hopefully knock down a bunch of 3's to take out LSU.

The inconsistency on defense really worries me. Offensively, though, it's really tough to stop LSU. They don't have a great structural offense. They just have several guys who can create buckets on their own. That's hard to defend. You can do everything right defensively vs. guys like Waters and Smart and they still can score it.

I see the same thing with ODU everywhere...they are a pretty good foe but WW is prob familiar with them to a degree from his VCU days....

But that entire bracket is pitiful...Washington and Ohio State as 8-9 game, both these teams are simply NOT very good....

MSU without Ward possibly and UNC is always a little scary...interested to watch that game tonight....if anyone cares about these things, I played UNDER 165 in Duke game....Duke is very good defensively and both these teams are relatively poor 3 point shooting teams

But these next 2 games for LSU are now HUGE for seeding purposes ...I see no way LSU gets a #2 in any other bracket than the west, as the committee will no doubt want a better matchup in Elite 8 than LSU

Lets win these next 2 games and see where we shake out next week!

Gonzaga is no slouch this year. They've got a really really good team. Their current #2 ranking is spot on, imo.

Gonzaga
Purdue
Marquette
Iowa State
Nevada
Virginia Tech
Wisconsin
Iowa
Buffalo
Wofford

Those are the teams that I think matchup the best against LSU. Not saying we can't beat any of those, but I think those teams share traits that could pose a more difficult challenge for LSU to advance.

I have 2 Future Tickets on LSU 7500 and FSU +10,000 I really think FSU could do some damage in the tourney Elite 8 last year...

Remember that Nevada lost by 1 point in the Elite 8 last year, Texas Tech lost to Villanova in Elite 8 and FSU lost by 4 to Michigan so those teams are deep on talent and long on experience....LSU seems to fit the EXACT same mold as these teams last year: athletic, great on the glass (although times we fall asleep) and an elite PG...

I have said all year that if Smart and Mays can give us some quality shooting in the tournament, we can beat just about anyone.

My biggest concern right now one the next month besides staying healthy, is that IF we win these next 2 games, we will suddenly be thrust into the spotlight....and how we handle the media, being the hunted etc will also determine our ultimate success.

Another thing to think about, this team has a very big personality and the NCAA loves that shite come tourney time.

Emmitt, Marlon and Javonte are types of players the media loves putting a camera in front of. If we make it past the first weekend I can see the LSU basketball brand exploding.

So Fresh-

I like your list a lot...but can you help me with Wiscy? I see nothing there Happ is solid but one of the worst FT shooters in the world apparently in the world Unreal

And I was high on Iowa State for a while, but I can't figure them out in conference...Baylor just roasted them last night as a 10 point dog...Note: Talk about a team that will hammer you on the Offensive glass and they are missing 2 players as well.

Please see me on Wiscy...I usually like them a lot but I think they are riding on reputation more than performance

Agree. If we can make it to the second weekend it's gonna be big hype for the Tigers.

Rolling,

I can't speak for Fresh, but I think it's more of their style. They play at a slower-pace, don't turn the ball over, and are stingy on defense. I actually think Texas Tech could cause some troubles for LSU because of this as well.

As for Iowa State, a whole bunch of talent, but they are streaky. If they get hot, they are tough to stop. In all, they play a high-tempo game, so when they play LSU, it would be strength on strength in terms of pacing.

Sometimes Marlon frustrates me when he dribbles too much that athleticism though

I want him catching and shooting & catching and dunking. That’s it. When he puts it on the floor, I hold my breath. Although, he had a couple nice takes last game.
