The Sugarbowl is absolutely meaningless unless you are an Arkansas or tOSU person.
tOSU doesn't exactly have an SEC winning streak in place to protect or anything.
The people that have already made travel plans will at least get to see the two teams play at their best. The suspension for next year pretty much assure tOSU goes to minor bowl at best next year.

Have you seen Ohio State's schedule for the first 5 weeks? 3 of the 5 games are a joke. I don't know what you might define as a "minor bowl", but tOSU could easily win the BIG 10 w/o Pryor. And that's assuming the suspension remains at 5 weeks. It will more than likely be cut down to about 3 weeks.

Well, first, it's not just Pryor, but also a starting RB, WR, and 1st team All Big Ten left tackle.
Moving past that point, though, if it's cut down, OK (FWIW, there's even a debate whether what they did should be against the rules, but of course it is). Even if the Bucks get through the first 5 weeks unscathed (certainly not a guarantee, with at Miami and Michigan State on the schedule, week 6 is at Nebraska. That's almost certainly a loss, given those guys will be rusty for that game. This also increases the chances they go pro, and if they do, that hurts Ohio State.

I think he'll go to the NFL after the Sugar but playing for only 7 games next year will definitely hurt him

What I don't get is why is the "ineligibility" started in 8 months when this is all out now?
Why are these 5 players allowed to play in the Sugar Bowl?
$$$ may have some bearing on it but it used to be:
A) You are caught/notified of doing improper things, etc, and this is agreed on by said player(s)
then
B)Immediate, or within a few days, ineligibility, depending on the severity of whatever the infraction was.
Now here's something with Ridley that can't be proven he did or didn't do yet he immediately is ineligible for the bowl game. WTF?

I don't have a problem with the ncaa's ruling. The Sugar Bowl is meaningless at the end of the day. But many a Buckeye and Hog fan shelled out major money for tickets, airfare and hotel rooms in our fair city of New Orleans.
5 games (or even 3) for what they did is more than adequate and it truly hurts the team in that they are at jeopardy for a loss or 2 now that some of their best players can't play. Suspend em for the Sugar Bowl and all you get is a boring game and Hog fans with even more over-inflated self worth.
What I don't like and what the NCAA has not been called to the carpet enough about (maybe not on this board but in the media) is how a player can be pimped out and still be permitted to play.

M Linebacker-
I see what you mean but it says to other kids, in high school, JUCO, that this is ok. Nothing will happen to you. I.e. Cam Newton.
Don't do "this" or you may have to sit out a/a few games..... may.
If nothing happens out of this whole Cam Newton soap opera, "Cam Newton" will show up again. He'll look different. He may be white, black, what have you..... playing for which ever school.
I don't get the gray area. And I don't see it as $$$. The schools in the conference get the same amount. Can't sell that many hot dogs and sodas.
It's just not right, what the NCAA is doing.

still don't understand why a player can't sell something they own..
Heard on espn that the players dont actally own the awards or whatever. Pryor sold a few of his awards/trophys and they were talking about how the players dont actually own them....
I think I heard that right

how is ruining next season convenient? that pisses me off when people say this
It could potentially ruin next season, but 3 or 4 of these players could go pro and never face any punishment. It sets a bad precedent, seems like every year there are more problems around bowl time with players getting into trouble for whatever reason. This at least plants that seed that if you are going pro go ahead and do what you want they will suspend you for next year. Look I am not against OSU but rules are rules and if the NCAA doesn't punish teams evenly they are going to see serious problems from the Universities. You better believe if I was Les I would be on the phone telling the NCAA if OSU's players can play so can Ridley.

Well, it must be, since that's what they're in trouble for.

Isn't there a big difference in payout for winning the Sugar Bowl as opposed to just showing up?
We're looking at a potential half a million dollar favor the NCAA is doing for tOSU.

so ... if the OSU players decide to enter the draft, was there any punishment at all?
Posted on 12/24/10 at 9:24 am to RobbBobb
If I was playing, I would give my Jersey to my family member and tell them do what you want with it. Let my family member or friend get what they can for it and then they could give me a really nice xmas gift. If caught, I had no idea that the person I gave my Jersey to was going to sell it and I thought the nice gift they gave me was just them being a loving family member.

OSU and Scam
A 5 game suspension that takes out your starting QB, RB, WR and so on, seems pretty severe to me if it stands.
As to the NCAA and Cam, since when is a parent seeking extra benefits not a rep for a player no matter who knows what?
Whatever the case, no way I allow what goes on at other schools to impact my pleasure of a 10 win regular season including wins over Florida, Bama, and Old Miss.
