They say records are made to be broken..... I've got my purple and gold glasses on but jeez this guy is going to "buy" himself a scoring title the way things are looking. Sad. Dude had his chance last game and blew it IMHO. NO way should his team be allowed to play in another game - especially w 14-19 record. WTH? ONLY reason would be to break Pete's hallowed record. His Dad is pushing for all this to happen. Is what it is. Just pisses me off the way this is going down. Pete's still my hero. #23 Forever LSU

The record has been out the window for a long time in college athletics. The CBI has been around for a while and the only criteria they have is whether you will pay the $50,000 if they invite you and will you being their be an attraction for viewers.

I'm not entirely sure if they will have The Basketball Classic postseason tournament this season but they invited 14-15 Detroit Mercy last year. So my guess is Detroit mercy will be in a post-season tournament this year. ETA Davis scored 24 in that loss so I wish they could subtract those games as well.

Anything to eliminate the white man from any historical relevance.

And who would have thought all the NCAA cared about was money…

That should NOT be a sanctioned tournament since it is not invitation and requires a fee unlike NIT or NCAA.

It also reflects on the fact that it wasn’t around when Pete played. I mean, if the rules are not the same, count his freshman stats or all of those 3 point fouls get 3 FTs and use his average. Plus could those 30 freaking footers he used to swish.

Again, this is apples and oranges

Does that mean LSU could still make a tourney? KJ could wreck havoc there a become the MVP.

This.

It will not in any way shape form or fashion compare to what Pistol Pete accomplished. It will be a hollow record. If Detroit Mercy and the young man and his father/coach have any pride at all they know it deep down inside.

I would hate to be this kid if he broke the record and have it compared to Maravich. His record is a good one but it looks sick beside Maravich’s accomplishment. Players who played before the 3 point basket and the rule when Freshmen could play shoukd have an asterisk.

There is some traction in the national press about Pistol Pete's record - and Davis being #2. Papa Davis is hell bent on getting his kid the record. My guess is he'll pay the entry fee if necessary. Would like for Junior to step up and admit some records should remain on hallowed ground. Have the kid teach the parent a good lesson in life. This is one of them IMHO.

I am objectively biased as an LSU fan in favor of Pete but it’s refreshing to read op-eds like that from an outside voice. Hopefully most sports fans feel that way. Tough to know sometimes in an age where recency bias and going viral are more celebrated than good perspective
