Myles Brennan Expectations
We need to knot put out too much on the young man before he even takes a meaningful snap for LSU. We need to understand how difficult it is to follow a legend in Joe Burrow. What Burrow did has never happened before in school history. Burrow had the greatest season ever by a college quarterback. He did so well it’s not even up for debate. He had the greatest QB transformation ever.

Ryan Clark made a very weak argument about Myles Brennan’s arm ability but he was right in his assessment of our fanbase having too lofty expectations this soon.

What does it take to be an elite quarterback at the college level? What separates good quarterbacks from elite quarterbacks?

Elite Quarterbacks have these elite traits & skill sets:

1.) Be able to read coverages quickly and be able to make great decisions while under duress - This trait has to be at an elite level. Joe Burrow scored highly when LSU measured him. He scored up there with the likes of Drew Brees and Tom Brady. You witnessed it on Saturdays.

2.) Pocket Awareness & Footwork - It doesn’t have to be necessarily running ability and scrambling. He just needs to be able to create enough added time to avoid the rush & to give receivers enough time to get open. Joe Burrow was elite and then some. He was nearly impossible to bring down even if you got pressure on him.

3.) Arm Accuracy - has to be at an elite level. Great Accuracy & Decision Making under Duress are arguably the two most important traits that separates elite QBs from good QBs. Joe Burrow was elite. He missed maybe a dozen throws all season. Absurd.

4.) Adequate Arm Strength - This doesn’t have to be elite. Adequate means above average. Enough not to be an issue. Enough to be able to make mid to long range throws down the field. Joe Burrow had adequate arm talent and he could make any throw that he needed to make whether from pocket or outside the pocket.

5.) Execute Well Under Pressure - This has to be at an elite level. You have to be able to go into hostile environments and perform at your best against elite competition.

Most college quarterbacks need at least a year to develop. Joe Burrow needed a full year to grow. We don’t even know what effect the departure of Joe Brady will have on Brennan’s development or how that will effect the play calling duties. We have heard coach speak and that things won’t change but I will believe it when I see it.

Myles Brennan has plenty of room for improvement judging what we have seen so far. He has elite arm strength but he still needs time to develop. The question is do we still have the coaches to develop these skills and how quickly can they develop him in order for us to be successful.

Do his part to get LSU to the Playoffs.

I think he will.

re: Myles Brennan Expectations
The expectations should be that he perform at a high level. LSU competes for SEC and National Titles. To do so, he needs to perform well. We don’t need to place expectations on him vis-a-vis Joe Burrow. We need him to do what Jake Fromm did. We need him to be good enough to allow us to succeed. He doesn’t need to be good enough to win a Heisman. And the expectations of competing for an SEC and National Title should not be too lofty for a RS Junior who was in the Elite 11, who has played or witnessed games that led LSU to its greatest season ever, as well as to a Fiesta Bowl win, and who signed on at LSU for this purpose. He knows the expectations are high and they should be. They shouldn’t be to have the best season in college football history though.

I’ve consistently said I think he will break the records Joe broke this year. He won’t reach Joe, but he will be 2nd in a lot of categories.

re: Myles Brennan Expectations
I expect 30-35 passing TDs and 10-15 INTs.

Which, for LSU, is incredible.

He will not be as magical with his pocket awareness and ability to escape. But if our attacking 4-3 defense is what we think it is and our running backs are solid, I see is in the playoff conversation.

Myles has an arm and we throw the football now. The system is much better than the last 20 years.

I would feel comfortable with Jordan Jefferson in this offense with this team.

re: Myles Brennan Expectations
The only expectation I have for Myles is to be accurate, decisive, and to protect the football. With the weapons at his disposal if he does those 3 things and stay healthy we could be back in the CFP

re: Myles Brennan Expectations
I think Myles will be better than “Experts” expected this season putting up 3800-4000 yards and 38-40 touchdowns, that’s if we have a full season.
Myles won’t be elite until next season when he is in his second year as the starter. That’s when he will throw for 4500-4800 yards and 45-50 touchdowns.

I think 30 TD's and 8 INTs are reasonable O/U numbers for him. Burrow's insane production last year has skewed our perception of what are "good" numbers. Only 15 guys in all of college football last year threw for 30 or more TD's. While it is not a ridiculous 60, 30 is still a pretty big number. If Brennan gets there, or even close, then he's probably had a good season (statistically)....

As long as he doesn't have anywhere close to the 15 INT's you proposed. That is a shitload of interceptions. To put it in context, that would have been the 3rd most interceptions in all of college football last year. Jarrett Lee threw 16 in his infamous 2008 season. If Brennan is in the 10-15 range (closer to 15) then that could be a big problem.

re: Myles Brennan Expectations
I predict, 35-40 TD's....and around 4000-4500 yards passing. Marshall/Chase/McMath/Palmer/Gilbert/Emery/Price...will all be catching balls left and right!

Agree. It was the coaches. If Miles had been HC, Burrow would have been a another Flynn of Mettenberger.

Please! I Joke.
I think, if the OL jells, he has an excellent chance to be be second in the record book for total offense for a season.
