I remember the chants, "Charlie Mac Pack!" So many wanted him gone. I was too young to grasp the situation then.

Thank you for giving me a reason to read John Ed Bradley’s great article again. I will have to look around and find the book. It’s around here somewhere. If you have not read it, I encourage you to google it or even read the book which is the full story.
Are you talking about “It Never Rains in Tiger Stadium” or another book? I’ve read “Never Rains...”. It is a great book

For me it's Mac.
If you read John Ed Bradley's book "It Never Rains in Tiger Stadium", you may know why.
Mac didn't field the most talented teams. It's amazing he won as much as he did.
However, the best Mac story I have is told by a Gator. She met him in Orlando and they were talking football. Mac told her he liked the Gators a lot. She was teasing him about his liking the gators and he told her not to get the wrong idea. He had too much love for LSU to ever be anything but a Tiger and added "I spilled a lot of blood and tears in Tiger Stadium."
It's a sentimental thing for an old timer like me.
Skip and Saban are the greatest coaches LSU has had. It's not close. Had Saban stayed and been content here there is no telling what he would have accomplished.

Skip, Dale & .... Les. Very few have ever passed on their dream job. He took one for the team that day. Never a better fit than Coach O, but Les will always hold a special place.

Skip.........O is a distant second.
