Just curious based on a discussion with friends about firing a coach with a national title:
Had LSU won on 1/9/12 yet the next 5 seasons played out like they did-would Miles (owning 2 national titles, 2007 & 2012) have still been fired in 2016?

Spinoff: would LSU have a dynasty or would Bama still?

LSU fans just love living is misery. Why even bring that game up?

I moved past 1/9/12. Yes Les would be fired.

No misery about it. Purely a question of the fire-ability (prolly just made that word up) timeline of a 2 time winning national championship coach vs. a 1 timer.

The rock of a real life in which I can't read the rant every single day.

Had LSU won on 1/9/12, the whole Jefferson vs. Lee debate would have died quietly. That debate fueled a lot of hatred for Miles for a long time.
Miles would not have been fired in 2016 if he had won the rematch.

To actually answer your question. Likely not. I think while a decent portion of the fanbase would've called for his head no matter what, it was everything that happened on 1/9/12 that really got reinforced people's being fed up with Les.
I mean, 2011, had LSU won that game, would've be one of, if not the, greatest seasons by a team of all time.
Instead, it was a look into the potential Les' teams had and that he'd reached his peak, especially in regards to Saban.
I also think that specific game was his undoing in regards to coaching against Saban. He just could never get away from it and it affected him and the team. They played their asses off, but were always waiting for the other shoe to drop and find a way to lose the game. Once something went wrong, that was it.

I'm not on or under it. Only a discussion question regarding the firing power/logic of a school of a 1 title vs. 2 title holding coach.

Don’t mind the haters. It’s an interesting question that has been discussed quite a bit.
I always come to the conclusion that if everything else stayed exactly the same, including Alabama’s success, I do still think that 2016 would have been the tipping point for Miles.
The difference is, I don’t think Alleva would have had the balls to fire a two time winning NC coach in September. I think Miles gets the full season in 2016, which he absolutely should have anyway.
If that happens, I think Miles finally gets over the hump with LF and the rest of that great class and wins that game against Saban in Tiger Stadium.
He also wouldn’t have lost to that weak Florida team with the Sugar Bowl on the line. He also doesn’t lose to Troy or get blown out by MSU.
So even if he doesn’t beat Alabama, we are still looking at our second NY6 Bowl in a row under Miles instead of celebrating two 4 and 3 loss seasons ending in Orlando under O.
Thanks Alleva
