This is not accurate

It is absolutely accurate. I didn't mean it gives them "more" in their pool, the excess counts in their pool spending.

If a 20th round pick signs for 250K, then 150 counts against the team's total spend limit.

I read it wrong - thought you were trying to say that's how they'd save money

The Astros have 1.42 million surplus right now. If they offer Nix 700,000 (350,000 over slot), they will be able to offer Marshall over a million.

Still a little more complex than this because the Astros can spend 5% over their bonus pool without losing a draft pick next year (an extra $650,000 or so). The Astros would be taxed 75% of any amount they spend over their allocated amount.

Its not that complicated. Every pick in the first 10 rounds is assigned a bonus value (higher pick = more bonus assigned). The summation of a team's top 10 round pick values makes up their total draft bonus pool. Every pick after the 10th round can be signed for up to 100K without it impacting the team's overall pool...you can go over this amount, but everything after 100K starts counting against your assigned total pool. Manipulating bonus payments within the first 10 rounds allows you to get creative: signing picks for under-slot allows you to "save" the unused portion of the allotment to spend elsewhere. Failing to sign a pick within the first 10 rounds causes you to lose the entire bonus value assigned to the pick, but there is nothing preventing you from signing a player for $1. A team can go over their total assigned draft pool by up to 5% without losing future draft picks. The penalty for going 5% over is a 75% tax on the overage spent.

So to sum up...

Tyler Moore C/1B Jr. Round 6 Pick 175th overall New York Mets *will sign $280,000*

Bobby Bradley 1B Round 3 Pick 97th overall Cleveland Indians

...neither of these two players will be wearing P&G in 2015. So LSU so far has only lost one current player and only one recruit.

I'm not counting Aaron Nola, since we all knew he was gone, and we'd all question his sanity if he stayed.

This is about as good as an outcome as we could have hoped for.

Yea, I gave up trying to understand. You think you understand it then you don't. All I know is I'm not getting excited until I know for sure they're heading here. We've been gashed by the draft plenty of times.
