He said: "In high school in Louisiana he better tear it up. The level of competition there is not... he's not playing in southern California or Florida. it's just not quite as strong."

Chase only offered as walkon at LSU. Mainieri whiffed on that one. It wasn't because he knew Chase was going early in draft.

Nice. Is he projected to pitch and play 1B in the pros as well?

The truth rarely does on the Rant.

Like most 2 way players, he'll give it a run at the plate first then fall back on the pitching if it doesn't work out at a position.

It's not as if Mainieri didn't know the kid was a high draft risk. He didn't whiff at all with this situation.

CPM can recruit, he has LSU backing him and who wouldn't want to play for us?
However, and this is where I don't like him, he doesn't go after the guys we can get. Meaning, instead of allowing a Zach Lee, Delino Desheilds, etc..., to waste our time and effort, he should be going after the kids that are solid middle of the road talents.
Skip Bertman built a dynasty in Baton Rouge doing that.
I mean, it is coaching. Plain and simple.
Look at San Antonio right now. When was the last time these guys had a draft pick in the top ten? It was 1997 when they took a guy named Duncan. Since then, they haven't picked higher than 20th and that was once. They usually pick 28th or higher.
We need to find the kids that are coming here.
CPM needs to build his own dynasty and not live off the dream of what Skip built. If CPM could see this and start doing just that, we win another 5 titles, fact.

I'm no expert in recruiting but it seems like CPM is doing a pretty good job.

I guess it won't win points to say we shouldn't allow the big name kids to use us for their own personal draft leverage.

Right, we never should have wasted our time on Kevin Gausman.

These two are pretty different even though they both signed.

All you did was name a couple of guys he missed on. He signs the majority of players that commit.

He is but every single year, after our top two or three guys sign, what happens?
He comes out and bitches about it.
STOP chasing those kids and nab the ones that can become great.
CPM does good finding them too. I just wish he would stop going after the guys that 3049 media outlets claim is going pro. Just move on to another guy.
He found
Mahtook, Katz, Rhymes, Nola (Both of them), etc..

why not take a chance on a top player or two, why should we avoid them? Maybe you don't get some of them but once and a while you have a great player.

Holy shite. Where do I begin?
I know it's difficult to fathom, but there are kids out there that don't want to play for your school of choice.
They are called risks. CPM does it in every draft just like every team does. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. You don't recruit a kid like Lee, Von Rosenberg, etc. because they are fringe players. They are damn good guys you want on your team. It's only a matter of if they love LSU enough to spur 6-7 figures as a teenager. That is something that is VERY difficult to gauge when recruiting, if not impossible. All the kids are going to say they love LSU. It's a game to some degree.
You do realize that the entire landscape of college baseball is different now today, right? Much less the means in which these kids get drafted and then paid.
No, it's recruiting.
What in the hell are you babbling about this time?
