I'm calling Jarrett Lee as the starter. Just wait and see. Miles always chooses experience over everything else.

should the defending national champions ever had andrew hatch or jarrett lee starting a game?
how do you make it through life just avoiding facts?

quote:No, I wrote that poorly. The injury I recalled had hampered Flynn (theoretically) leading up to and somewhat during the '04 season, making Russell the shoe-in to back up/replace Randall. I meant that Russell had had a shaky year as a backup/replacement in '04 while Flynn had been set back by an injury. Neither (as I recall) was injured coming into '05, but if Flynn had been impressive enough healthy (which he wasn't), there could have been some question in Miles' mind about who would be the starter come September.
between the outback bowl and the arizona state game?
Though now as I look for a link, I may be remembering Flynn's high school injury that was a question for his True Freshman year.
In any event, I didn't mean to suggest an injury during the '04 season or leading into the '05 season. They were both healthy coming into '05.

Were we ever REALLY after Hatch and Lee as prospects because we thought they had SEC-caliber talent, or because we needed depth at the QB position, QUICK?
Lee had more than 30 scholarship offers from Division I schools, and chose LSU over Nebraska, Kansas State, Oklahoma and others.

only thing i am arguing about is whether JJ or JL should have started at the beginning of this season.
thedoc seems to think based on the end of the season play that JJ would have taken us to the BCS national championship game.
i think that is just stupid. the coaches went with what they thought would be the best player at the time.
i still think they made the right decision.

I am optimistic about our QB play for next year.
Ditto.
It seems to me that confidence plays a much larger role in a QB's performance than it does for other positions. Although, the Chick Bowl wasn't highly important for our program in many regards, it still ended up being our best performance of the year for our team and for JJ. For JJ, I don't think the overall esteem or importance of the Ga Tech game will tear away any realization that he has in knowing that he CAN beat ranked teams and run our offense. In the end, I think that confidence will give him the edge over JL, regardless of who's skill set is better.

well if that is so the reason we lost all year long was our defense. You can excuse JJs loss but not Lees, what is the difference? Just be honest they both are young and inexperienced. Maybe next year they will play better, but now we will need both Lee and JJ.
Uh well lets see. JJ didnt give the other team 17 points off of turnovers which proved to be the difference in one of Lee's games. Lee barely gave the defense a chance against ALabama in OT, if he had been smart he would take the field goal and atleast give the defense something to work with. JJ didnt put are defense in the situation to be that bad. JJ played smart but did nothing spectucular. Lee however tried to do spectacular things but forced them. They both are young and inexpirenced, but JJ proved he was smart and inexpirenced instead of Lee who put to much of the game on himself trying to force things.

Bottom line is the big picture is what all you JL haters cant seem to grasp... things like pressure, importance of certain games, YOUTH, defensive problems, playcalling, and lack of TEAM leadership all played a part in JL's problems last season.
Not really, I am a JJ fan and quite frankly agree that JJ did nothing sensational. Now your arguing that JL was put in these big game situations and didnt play as well as JJ did because of the pressure. Then explain to me the pick six against Troy or the Pick Six against Tulane? And then, if your excuse is he does play well in big games. well then he should even be in consideration for leading an SEC team because all SEC games are big games! I dont see why I would argue to put a kid back in this season in more big games situations, when your aruging that he doesnt play well in big games?

Then why did JJ play in the Chick-Fil-A bowl? I mean Lee was healthy again then.

if you read the Times-Pic article linked in the original post, Miles barely mentions JL other than to say he will also be in the mix with Chris Garrett. Most of the article is about whether Shepard comes in and beats out JJ. I t looks like Miles is already penciling in JJ as the starter come spring, and why wouldn't he, he was starting at the end of the season, played well and was MVP of the Peach Bowl. I don't see how this thread went 20 pages.
Posted on 3/4/09 at 3:53 pm to cepheid
a more legitimate thread would be 'does JL beat out Chris Garret for 3rd string QB next season'?

Touche' Hope I didn't come off as a dick. I hate the bashers.
As others have said, Lee was highly recruited. On his highschool team he was surrounded by very good talent. The talent at LSU was probably closer to the competition than in HS. Without question, he needs to learn to look off the DB's. If he doesn't learn this technique, he will never be succesful in college, IMHO.
Anyway, I am optimistic. We have some good QB's coming back and some good ones coming in. One will take charge (hopefully more than one). GO TIGERS!!!
