Exactly. It's not about which team would be more competitive. The fact is, LSU has absolutely nothing to gain by playing ANY FCS teams, in-state or otherwise. There are plenty of teams in the lower third of the BCS that we should be able to schedule without conceding a return game.

I'd rather not play either one of them...

Sure, but Mcneese comes cheaper than 1A opponents.

Also, SOS formulas take 1-AA competition into account. So, if Mcneese is better than ULL, it would help us anyway, public perception be damned.

I wonder how much less money Mcneese would be willing to accept compared to ULL/ULM etc?

McNeese played North Carolina last year in Chapel Hill, and almost won that game, I'm trying to find how much they got paid for that one...

One of the radio guys mentioned that they'd be asking for the 400k-500k range while D1 opponents are asking for 750k-1 mill.

Don't know how accurate that is, but with how the BCS formula works these days, McNeese is pretty much exactly the same as playing ULL.

Some do and some don't. The ones that don't just ignore the game. This hurts because you end up with one less game than many of your opponents. In the ones that do account for it, a 1-A may be better than a D-1. In the computers, a good 1-A is generally better than a bad D-1. However, even a good 1-A team can hurt you more in the human polls. That's why it is important to schedule a quality D-1 opponent to go along with these 1-A's.

The only redeeming thing about this game is that no McNeese fans think that being a McNeese fan and an LSU fan are mutually exclusive, unlike UL-L fans (some of which) think that UL-L and LSU are rivals. I don't know a single McNeese fan who doesn't like LSU, and root for us vigorously, but I do know a fair share of UL-L fans that have some type of vitriolic hatred complex concerning LSU.

I know a few but they are the exception rather than the rule that you see with some other schools. I think this could be a great game as far as the game atmosphere goes. McNeese fans travel well to longer distance games and should show up well here in BR and they throw some pretty good tailgates as well.

I personally think the lack of hate probably stems from the fact that many McNeese grads (myself included) go on to get advanced degrees from LSU (Masters and JD for myself) and that as a whole most McNeese fans seem to be pretty good and knowledgeable sports fans and tend to support their teams and take pride in their school even in down years as is the case with LSU.

and the last time ULL and McNeese played McNeese went into Lafayette and won 38-17 in 2007...

Yep, and the ULL fans still have the red-arse over this beatdown. Speaking of ULL, they actually have K-State coming to Lafayette this year and Oklahoma State coming in next season.

I'd rather see our money go to McNeese than Appy or Western Caroline or any of the automatic wins that we have played.

Exactly what I said earlier in this thread. If these games are a MUST, we might as well keep the money flowing within the state.

I personally think that these games SHOULD HURT any teams ability to make a BCS national championship... so it would discourage this God awful practice
