I checked the teams that Clemson and Ohio st played this year and for life of me I cannot figure how they are so high in the rankings. Clemson did get by texas a and m but Ohio literally beat no team of quality. The best win they have is cincy as I see it. I think both are good teams but we have other unbeaten teams who played nobody either but they sit low in rankings. Why? Thoughts?

You meant Texas A&M right? Clemson's probably getting more benefit of doubt being undefeated and defending national champs. And they were out of the initial CFP top 4.

Ohio State also creamed Wisconsin. They beating top 25 teams like they’re all Rutgers so I think they’re ranking is merited. Closest loss is by 24 so...

Where exactly do you want Ohio St and Clemson to be ranked?

The team that's ranked too high is Georgia. You can't lost to SCar and be that high.

Because it is a COMBINATION of "eye test" and "record"

If you have a race car and no gasoline, I will get further down the road on my riding lawn mower WITH gasoline. The combination is important

It’s not as much as where they are ranked as it is where the other unbeatens are ranked I guess. Let’s face it, all of the unbeaten teams outside of lsu have pretty weak schedules. If Ohio st and Clemson are so high why aren’t Minny and Baylor closer to the top?

The race car and no gas is a pretty good analogy. Thanks

Take a look at the schedules of Minnesota and Baylor, and you'll have your answer. OSU and Clemson may have not played the toughest schedule, but the other two have played an even worse one.

Minnesota made a big jump by beating Penn St. They have the schedule in front of them to make the playoffs if they keep winning. Same thing can be said for Baylor.

Just let it play out. The cream will rise to the top.

They have beat the shite out of everyone on their schedules.

Do you go with Bama? UGA? ahead of them...UGA lost to a bad USC team, Bama lost to us...we know those teams are not as good as we are, and not deserving of being ahead of OSU and Clemson.

You can only play who is on your schedule. I dont see anyone more deserving of the CFP than the four listed as of right now, with UGA being a question mark for me.

Dude they are undefeated in a major conference. There are like 8 good teams in America and you can’t schedule them all. Who would you rank above them? All the teams like Auburn and A&M who have played tough teams have lost to them.

Ohio state lost to a 6-6 va tech the year the won it. If it’s early in the season it’s allowed

yes, you are missing one thing: margin of victory is baaaack!
(for those of you who weren't around during the Miami and Nebraska runs, margin of victory was a huge deal.)

Even the Sagarin ratings includes margin of victory indirectly. Also indirectly including it are stats like offensive/defensive efficiencies, to a degree.

Also have the dumb as hell fad of the FPI, which is a predictor and factors in future SoS, the weaker the opponents in the future... the higher the FPI which is the OPPOSITE of what should be considered.
