Pearl already had a history of winning in the SEC.

So you’re saying we should give McMahon a longer rope because he didn’t have any experience coaching at this level? That’s an interesting take from you.

If it took Pearl his 4th year to have success in the SEC coming from another SEC school, why are y’all riding McMahon so hard?

As usual you’re on the polar opposite of reality

What’s reality? What’s the relevance of him having previous SEC coaching experience?

What’s the relevance of a known high level winner in coaching who won in the same conference? Do you really have to ask that?

Why don’t you just wait until the season starts? Anyone who says our team isn’t as good as last year have to be the dumbest person and just a blind hater of McMahon Miller looks like a freak, Reed is back, we got an extremely good/high level PG, picked up Sutton who will be a good player. This team will get to the tournament

Not even pretending to not be an irrational sunshine pumper for a 14-40 coach anymore

Bruce Pearl went 32-54 his first 3 seasons with Auburn. When you get bottom of the barrel NIL allotment(up until this season), you’re gonna get some piss poor results. No excuses after this season though.

Mr. Villanova offense himself breaking out his basketball for dummies takes already, season hasn’t even started yet

We self imposed 4 years of unwatchable basketball. Plain and simple. Woodward made a god awful terrible decision that has ruined the past 3 season and about to be a 4th.

I'm pretty sure even you don't actually believe this position has any merit. It's just a contrarian argument posed solely to go against the majority position. But even if we set aside the fact that the means of roster building in Pearl's first 3-4 seasons were massively different than they have been in McMahon's LSU tenure (i.e. Pearl had no access to 1,000+ immediately eligible experienced transfers) this position still does' hold any weight.

Why?

Beginning with the year McMahon was hired (22-23 season) through last season, TEN (10) other HC's were hired by SEC schools. EVERY.SINGLE.ONE of those TEN coaches made at least 1 NCAA Tournament appearance within their first 3 seasons. Every One....except McMahon. Who hasn't even been close. LSU is so blessed that they were able to land the ONLY coach in the SEC who needs 4, 5, 6,...15 years to field a moderately good team.

Unfortunately, whether they like it or not, LSU fans are stuck with him for at least one more year. But to pretend he's been anything other than the worst HC in the SEC over the last three seasons is absurd.

that was the most unlikely anomaly of CMM's tenure, that 2-week, maybe 5 game stretch where we did things we'd never done before or since - outrebound teams, hit some shots, played with a bit of toughness....but then as quickly as that stretch came, it went away, never to return.

Even then, that 2 week stretch was on the razor's edge of not happening. The wins over South Carolina and Kentucky were both 1 point wins that had a lot of luck go LSU's way to make them happen. Vs. SC, LSU missed what would have been the go-ahead bucket. However, a questionable late whistle bailed them out and allowed Wright to hit the 2 game-winning FTs. Vs. Kentucky LSU had an AWFUL end of game play which resulted in Wright being on the backside of the glass with no actual ability to get a shot off. Instead, he was left with only being able to throw it into the paint and hope for the best. Ward made a great play to go in the air and catch and shoot the ball all in one motion for the buzzer beater. LSU was 12-12 (5-7) at that point in the season. If EITHER of those breaks don't go their way, we are looking at another losing season

Three truths:
1) Woodward is an overrated AD who has made two bad hires for our most important (revenue generating) programs
2) we won’t get serious about basketball until the new arena is open. You have to sell premium, skybox and club level seating which will fund things going forward.
3) if McMahon is to be let go, you must retain David Patrick as an assistant.

Fans/donors will "get serious" when LSU finds a HC who can win and sell the program to donors. A new arena is a temporary shiny new toy, but it doesn't affect winning and losing...at all. Best case scenario is it draws in a few new fans for the first year or two. But if the team is still bad, those fans will stop caring. It happened at Ole Miss.

The court and goals are the same size in a new arena as they are in a 75 year old arena. The amenities of the arena don't generate winning. Hell, the preseason No. 1 team (Purdue) plays in gym older than the PMAC.

Not really. If you didn't know the name Ben Simmons you wouldn't know David Patrick. There is a reason he's bounced around so many places since he first left LSU and is only back at a time the program is dead as a doornail. He's not a bad assistant coach. But he's by no means necessary to the success of the program. You don't bring in a new HC then try to force him to retain a largely unheralded assistant.

We can talk about all of the ancillary BS all we want, the but the bottom line is the right HC drives EVERYTHING. The teams winning at the highest level have those guys and they are winning because of those guys...not because of amenities or assistant coaches. LSU doesn't have that guy right now.

That's cute. 99% of college sports fans NATIONALLY have dumped college baseball for football and men's basketball.

It's not very hard for a major school like LSU to dominate a sport no one cares about across the country if they choose to go in balls deep funding it.

Yay!!! So we're the tallest midget!!!

We should be concentrating almost exclusively on football, and not too terribly far behind, men's basketball. That's what brings recognition and revenue.

Next time you leave the state and find yourself talking to a knowledgeable college sports fan, ask them who won the last national title in football, men's basketball, and baseball.

Most Cajuns will be stunned when they get so few correct responses to the baseball question. And don't be pointing at your LSU hat when you ask them.who won the baseball title. Or lead them on in any other way.

Todd Golden at Florida came from the same level of coaching as Mcloser, and it only took him 3 years to win a National title. Time to kick the Bum down the road!

Florida had 2 national championships in the very recent past in basketball. LSU has never even made the championship game. I think we claim a title from the 1940's or something.

The level of program commitment is night and day between the two programs.

This is the most in-depth preview of LSU I've seen and it comes from a Mizzou fan page.

I love basketball and more so, LSU basketball. These LSU basketball threads suck even worse than the program does right now. Ill informed complainers battle with daydreamers, which leaves real basketball talk in the dust.

This thread is living proof
