This is a blow... MD was one of a few guys who might have developed into a pretty good player. Trent's in trouble.

I would think no matter what the bottomline would be at least 7-9 in the SEC regular season and at least one SEC tournament win .

This is still bad even if it's an improvement. The bottomline should be highly than that.

So basically Derenbecker tried to transfer last week and the coaches told him no. That he could take some time off go to a place to get better, ill let yall fill in that blank, and then come back. But not leave to play for someone else.

Someone, most likely him, leaked this report to the paper today and then he went in again trying to transfer and they said the same thing.

There were already rumors of him trying to go to Clemson earlier this year. And when I say rumors, him telling everyone he could that he was considering it. The transfer period is over and the school already put in all the contracts for next year. The ONLY way, at least to my knowledge, that he could leave is if he has a legitimate excuse. Simply put he does not. I wish I could elaborate on some of the things he has done to put himself and this team in danger, but I can not.

I don't want to hurt the team, and the problem is leaving anyway.

A player doesn't need the permission of a school to transfer.

From what i keep hearing, he pretty much does if he doesn't want a lot of shite coming out about him and if he wants to go somewhere else this year.

How about Napoleon Dynamite? He is reasonably tall and has surprsingly great moves.

Sounds to me like Matt isn't doing what he's supposed to be doing to remain a student at LSU....much less a scholar athlete.

If he's having trouble coping.....then he needs to get help and this isn't a knock on TJ.

It's just very unfortunate....

no offense but none of this really makes sense. there is no "transfer period". Rosters may be full. That could be true. He doesn't need permission to leave, only to go to another SEC school and not have to sit 2 years. It isn't a contract... I'd like to know where you are getting all this

None taken. I am hearing this from a player on the team.

Maybe he has it wrong. From what I understand they told him that he could not transfer, hence he is withdrawing right now. Kids on the team are not happy with how he is handling this. I told him about the report before he even knew about it for one thing, granted he knew he was trying to leave.

"The coaches already put in the player contracts for the year, he can only transfer with the coaches permission and that won't happen because of all the shite they have had to deal with because of him."

I am about to go out for the rest of the day, if I hear more I'll let you know when I get back.

Not trying to spread false shite, this is just what a player on the team is telling me.

None of that makes sense, unless he has some shite he's trying to keep secret.

Elleshoe, I think you have one detail wrong. If a player transfers with a release (coach signs off on it), then he sits out for a year to go to a non-SEC school (or whatever the terms of the release are) and 2 years for an SEC school.

If he doesn't get a release, he has to sit out 2 years if he wants to go to Gonzaga or somewhere like that and 3 years if he wants to play for Florida/Kentucky/etc. This is why no one ever transfers without a release to a conference rival.

Sounds like there is some sort of mental health/substance abuse issue going on though, at least from what his dad said. I think this must have taken Trent by surprise considering he had a 4.0 gpa at Country Day.

Regardless, I don't see how Stanford or Georgetown would even consider looking at him at this point. Maybe Gonzaga though.

naw... a coach can release a player to an SEC school and they only have to sit out one year (Phelon Jones)... without a release they have to sit out 2.

Go OOC and you sit out one year either way.

Either way I doubt any SEC school is going to take him.

I have a feeling this is more about his personal health or well being than about basketball...

Right, it all depends on the terms of the release. Traditionally, most releases say "Player A can play anywhere besides an in-conference school after one year." Robert Marve's release also included Florida, FLorida State, and South FLorida. Phelon's release did not have the stipulation for any SEC schools. I guess LSU thought he was a really shitty player.

My understanding is that if a coach says that a player can't get a release though, he has to sit out 2 years. I could be wrong about it being 3 years to an in-conference rival. It could just be two years across the board.

One possibility is that by having Derenbecker drop out of LSU before the sememster starts, LSU gets no APR hit and Derenbecker doesn't lose a year of eligibility. While he may have to sit out 2 years, he will still have 3 years to play college ball...

right. He still has a redshirt year so where ever he goes he'll sit out and still play 3.

eta: unless he goes to an SEC school that Trent doesn't release him to.
