Hope this doesn't happen, but I have feeling it will.

It was already heading in that direction when the hurry up spread offenses showed up!

They should make it so if you fair catch it in the endzone the ball goes to the 20. 25 if on the field. If you kick it out of the endzone 15. For college.

You'll do as I say, baw.
The avg return is around 20yds and there would likely be a specific yd line (5?) a coach will give the green light to KO ret guy, depending how good he feels his KO team is.
I don't see this really helping player safety much, as most of the players are blocking not watching for fair catch.

There has not been a kick off return for a touchdown by LSU in Tiger Stadium in over 35 years. Looks less likely to happen ever again now.

There wasn't an option on the 5, hence the sky kicks.
Now if it looks like no hole, fair catch inside 5 same as EZ, and maybe run it between 5-10 and play the averages (+20yds).
I'm just guessing, and no telling if it may change kickoffs also, like higher-shorter, enticing returns.

Why are people panicking?

It's the option of the receiving team to fair catch or not. If a team wants to return the kick, they still can.

To get around it, I can see a lot more on sides kicks with teams hoping to gain a sudden advantage.....more injuries in an on-sides situation

This is good news for LSU since we can't find a kicker who puts it in the endzone consistently. That is...if most returners call for fair catches.

If your kicker can't consistently reach the endzone, this could hurt. It would almost guarantee the opponent starts at the 25 everytime.
