It’s just a recommendation by the rules committee at this point. It still has to go through the approval process; so chill.

Why are people panicking?
It's the option of the receiving team to fair catch or not. If a team wants to return the kick, they still can.

. On a kickoff, the receiver can signal for and make a fair catch inside the 25 and get the ball at the 25 regardless of where he caught it.
What kickoff returner would actually do that. everyone they put back there firmly believes that can take it to the house everytime. they take it out if they catch it 4 yards deep.

It interesting the whussification of football, that continues to occur. I get player safety to an extent. Just like any work place safety, yet you choose the profession and know the risks. How come RUGBY hasn’t been outlawed or talked about more?? Guess since it’s not mainstream in the U.S it doesn’t matter

And they are doing there best to ruin baseball too in the name of saving 5 minutes.

Right now on TV after a score it's 3 minutes of commercials, back to the game to watch the kick coverage team dance around to stadium music for a minute and see the kicker kick it into the end zone and the returner take a knee, then another 3 minutes of commercials.
I agree a kick-off can change the game but if they'd just place the ball on the the 25 and save those 7 minutes after each score I might be OK with it...

So dumb. The whole purpose of a touchback is that you don't have to go more than 100 yards to get 6 points.

College Football isn't a profession. I'm also certain 18 year old males aren't the best at making decisions based on long term brain health. As a former one myself, i know.

Our kick coverage teams have struggled in the past few years. This could help us more than it hurts us. I bet Aranda would not be against it.

This whole board bitches about not kicking the ball out of the endzone to ensure the other team cannot return it. So why is everyone bitching about a proposed rule that would reduce the amount of returns?

I often see people post about "touchdown, extra point, commercial, kickoff, another commercial," and I wonder if they even watch college football.
No network sandwiches the kickoff between commercials in college football. That's strictly an NFL thing. Just adds to the boredom of the NFL.

I don't give a damn about what the purists think. I mean, Moses didn't bring down the rules of baseball on a stone tablet. Nothing wrong with tweaks.
