I want to start by saying what you do at the sec tournament doesn’t really affect how you do in the ncaa tournament and the first priority should be setting up the pitching for the tournament if you know your in.

But

There has been a debate in the past that CPM puts more emphasis on the SEC tournament than coaches like O’Sullivan at Florida for example. I’m not sure which is right and which is wrong but I wonder if that mindset in years where no matter the outcome at the tournament your postseason fate is set helps you in years when you need to win to help you get in the tournament or host or a National seed.

Last year for LSU going into the tournament there were questions if they would make the NCAA tournament and they won and ended up a 2 seed. This year had to win a couple games in order to be a host and they accomplished that. Still may not host but I think they will. In the 6 straight years they were national seeds I know at least one of those years they got the 8 seed because of the run they made in the SEC tourney.

Florida needed to win a couple games to feel comfortable about making the NCAA tourney and lost on Tuesday. In the last it didn’t matter how they did and they usually lost early and just focused on the NCAA tournament.

ETA: they won some games last year to become a 2 seed is what I should have said.

I just wish Mainieri focused more on midweek games (they do matter) and his team not waiting to the last minute to begin playing baseball

Ole Miss won the SEC tournament last year. LSU was runner-up.

I would like them to play better in those games as well but if they end up a regional host which they should winning those 5 midweek games would not have made much of a difference. There were never going to be a National seed with the sec record they had.

I really enjoy this tournament and the longer they play every year the more enjoyment I get from it.

There's no guarantee LSU makes it out of a regional next week lets play while we still have the chance.

I like the way we’ve approached this one. Last year our pitchers were worn out before the sec tourney. This year our pitchers are just getting to their max. Having marceaux get that high pitch count was what we needed. However, who ever pitched from her on out won’t be available or at a weeks rest game 1.

My hope is we somehow squeak this one out with our scrap pitchers and a few innings from hess and Fontenot. Then lose to vandy who would have played 17 innings to our 44 in the tournament.

I would like to see the lineup show up today and pick up their pitchers. The pitching staff has held up their own this tournament. Time for the bats to hold the rope.

ALL games count towards the actual goal ... OMAHA.
PERIOD.

Now, due to falling at the end of the season, one can argue that the SEC Tournament is more important than the mid-week games....but that depends on winning at least one or two games at the tournament.

Obviously WINNIMG the SEC Tournament is a different deal.

Correct. However, if they fail to advance any more in the SECT and wind up a 2-seed, those mid-week looses will be as viable a reason as any (because it’s always more than just one thing) for why they’re not hosting.

It's not like we haven't been going to Omaha regularly when we make deep runs in the SEC tournament. I'd rather win it than not win it. I want to win every tournament/competition that LSU plays in.

I have to agree with you about the mid week games. LSU needs to wear out the front line pitching against those directional schools to toughen them up for the post season. Substitutions in the field should be kept to a minimum because the regular starters need to get tougher too. If the front line pitchers and the starting fielders are tough enough they won't get hurt and there wont be be any reason for Maineri to know what the second line people can do because the will never get into the game anyway.

Starters are your horses, ride 'em.
